Chapter 19

Rowan's P.O.V

Once I wake up more, I realize it was only just a dream and Peyton's still dead. But he's so far completing him promise of always being with me.

I check my phone like I do every morning and notice I have a missed call. I go into my phone app to see who it was.

Gabrielle.

It's almost noon in the East Coast so I figure it's okay to call Gabrielle back. I dial her number and she picks up on the first ring.

Gabrielle- Rowan?

Rowan- Hey Gabrielle! It's been a while. How are you?

Gabrielle- Horrible. Rowan can I please live with you in California?

Rowan- Why? What's wrong?

Gabrielle- Mommy's...Mommy's abusing me.

Rowan- What? What is she doing to you?

Gabrielle- She punches, kicks, and whips me. Please Rowan help me!

Rowan-Okay I will be there as soon as I can! I promise you!

I hear a door creak through her side of the phone

Faint voice- Gabrielle who the heck are you talking to?

Mom.

Gabrielle- R-Rowan.

I hear the phone drop and the line goes silent.

Oh my gosh I need to go save her.

I quickly send Sabrina a text.

Rowan- get over here asap. emergency.

She replies within seconds.

Sabrina-be there in 5

I quickly get changed into sweatpants, a t-shirt, and get my sneakers on. I also grab everything I would need to travel. Then I eat a quick breakfast bar. By the time I finish, the doorbell rings. I run to the door and open it.

"Rowan what's wrong?" Sabrina says.

"I'll tell you in the car. Are you okay with going across the country?"

"Yeah."

"Okay. Let's go."

I quickly close and lock the door behind me and run with Sabrina out to the car. I start driving as fast as I can to the airport.

"Okay, now will you tell me what's wrong?" Sabrina asks me.

"Oh, yeah. You remember Gabrielle, right?"

"Your sister?"

"That's the one. Well anyway, Gabrielle has been living with my mom since my parents got divorced and now my mom's abusing her."

"Oh my gosh that's horrible! How did you find out?"

"Gabrielle called me while I was sleeping so I called her back this morning."

"It's a good thing she called you."

"I know."

We pull into the airport and run inside as quickly as I can. Luckily, the ticket sellers' line is empty. I start running to there and Sabrina follows.

"How may I help you?" the ticket seller lady asks.

"Two tickets to the earliest round trip flight to Albany New York please."

She types something on to her computer.

"The earliest flight boards in 15 minutes and lucky for you there are two extra seats on both flights."

"Oh thank gosh." I say, releasing breath I didn't even realize I was holding.

"Here are your tickets." She says handing us our tickets. "And have a nice day!"

"You too!" Sabrina and I both say at the same time.

We start running up the stairs to the gates. We only go through the walk through security because we don't have any bags. We aren't going to stay in Albany for longer than a few hours anyway.

Once we are out of security, Sabrina asks "Rowan, what gate are we supposed to be at?"

I look down at the tickets. "7." I tell her. I look up at a sign hanging down from the ceiling. Next to gate 7 it has a arrow pointing straight ahead. We are jogging to gate seven when we hear "Gate 7 is now boarding." on the speakers.

We jog even faster until we reach the line with everyone to board the plane to New York. Once we are on the plane, we reach our seats 46 and 47, conveniently right next to each other.

This is going to be a long flight.
