Chapter 13 (4:38pm, after school) Troy had just finished setting up the volleyball net for Lyric, because he knew she had been having a bad morning and he wanted to do something to help make it an easier rest of her day. She texted him from the grocery store saying that she had just seen Alexander and that she told him that they needed to talk about their relationship. I was a mix of happy and guilty, guilty that it would make her so sad and guilty that I was genuinely happy. It wasn't exactly the fact that she would be single- okay maybe just a little, but it was more about that I know how sad he had been making her, and has always made her. She deserves a lot better than Alexander fucking Miller. I turned to look over my shoulder at the sound of my obnoxious teammates flooding into the gym and chattering about what everybody was, the state finals in 3 weeks, we had made it through sectionals suprisingly, so now we were moving onto the state finals. I'm scared shitless because we are going up against the 7 best playing teams in the whole state, and the state finals are being held in NYC this year..Lyric had kept us working our asses off for it though and gave us reassuring pep talks when we needed them. I feel like we definitely feel more confident in ourselves because we had gotten our asses whooped at regionals last year, not even making it through the second round, but we finished 1st out of all 5 matches we played and won regionals this year with Lyrics coaching. No shade to Coach Michelson of course, but I think we just needed some tough love, someone to push us, which Lyric did. The only thing thing that was going to make this excruciating 5 hour trip cramped into a bus with my obnoxious ass teammates is her, I pray to God that she sits next to me. They all took their spots on the bleachers, waiting for our gorgeous coach to make an appearance and order them around. I moseyed on over to the bleachers where the rest of us sat at and I found Spencer, taking a seat beside him and letting out a soft groan when every bone in my body crackled like an old man. Spencer chuckled as i sat beside him, nudging his shoulder against mine which i returned. "Wheres Lyric?" Spencer questioned and took glimpses around for her, Troy tossing up his shoulder in a half shrug before replying "I'm not sure, Let me message her" Troy said and reached into the side pocket of his basketball shorts, pulling out his phone while Spencer chuckled a little "You got her number, huh?" Spencer teased and nudged his shoulder against Troys once again, Troy going quiet for a moment as he thought. "Well, uhm..I'm staying at her house right now, spence." Troy filled him in through a murmur as he brought up their texts and Spencers mouth dropped open, staring at him wide eyed "Did you lose your card to our coach?!" Spencer exclaimed in a hushed tone and Troys eyes went wide as well and smacked his shoulder, hard, as he shushed him "Shh! No, i did not. My mom was arrested, so shes letting me and gabe stay with her." Troy clarified and Spencers face dropped, sympathy spreading across his face. He was silent for a moment although his lips parted to speak, nothing being able to come out for a couple of seconds "Oh my god, I'm- I'm so sorry" He said gently and Troy nodded, giving him a small reassuring smile "Thank you" Troy said gently and Spencer swallowed, frowning a little "Do you want to talk about it?" Spencer offered softly and Troy shook his head, "It's okay, I'm okay i think" He muttered, "We're actually talking to the kids this afternoon after practice to see if they would be okay with us living there until i can save up to get our own place." Troy explained and Spencer hummed, nodding. "That sounds like a maybe good plan. I'm really fucking sorry about your mom though man, I'm always here if you ever need to talk" Spencer offered and wrapped his arm around Troy, pulling him into a side hug which made Troy smile. "Thank you, I really appreciate it, Spence" He said gently and was just about to send a text to Lyric when they heard the door to the gym that led to the outside swing open and his head shot up, smiling wide at the sight of Lyric.

Lyric smiled as she made her way over to them, grasping the waistband of her leggings to tug them up a bit. "Hey guys, sorry i'm late" Lyric apologized as she approached the bleachers, "Is everyone excited for the finals? Nervous?" She inquired and got a bunch of mixed responses, chuckling at the fact that some looked mortified and the others looked absolutely thrilled, #72 looked like he was about to puke. "I know it's nerve racking, trust me i do, i have been in this exact same position before..right on the bleachers that you sit on. But you have to think about how absolutely lucky you are to be here, you are in the top 8 teams in the entire state, boys. How fucking amazing is that?" Lyric said and took a glimpse around at all of them, smiling wide. "You should all be proud of yourselves, i know that i am. I also know that you're going to do so great, every single one of you, so theres nothing to worry about." She reassured them. One of her students raised his hand, #38, Andrew Watson. "Yes, Andrew?" Lyric questioned with a hint of shock in her voice because she was astounded that he actually wanted to speak, i dont think he had spoken to her once she had been there. He swallowed nervously and lowered his hand, he wasnt much for speaking in front of groups of people, even groups of people that only consist of 11 people that he's been in highschool with for 3 years. "What happens if we slip up on something, or-or make a mistake that will completely mess up our entire volleyball career? What will happen to us then? Will we never play again?" Andrews question began to spiral and he took in a deep calming breath, Lyric chuckling gently. "Andrew, of course you're probably going to slip up on something, but it will not be something that will ruin everything for you. Every one of you will most likely make a mistake, you just have to get your ass right back up, and you correct it." Lyric encouraged them with a stern yet consoling tone, Andrew took in yet another deep breath and nodded through his exhale. "You guys will not disappoint, I know it. Just watching you over this past month I've come to realize what amazing work ethic and teamworking skills you all have, and that is pretty much all you need, besides a little bit of good sportmanship, and some whoop ass when you need it" She attempted to relieve them of their worries, a gentle smile appearing on her face when they all looked a bit more eased, her eyes then moving to meet Troys. "You boys are all I could've wished for as a team, you're absolutely perfect" Lyric said gently.
