Tru shifted uncomfortably in the hospital bed. She pushed the button and ot slowly inclined, raising her head up a few inches. Still uncomfortable...How did they expect anyone to get any rest in these awful things? Her gaze drifted to the fetal monitor. Grey, blue and green lines danced across the black screen. She fidgeted with the straps pulled tightly across her belly, just another reason she was uncomfortable. Another reason it was hard to sleep. She sighed as the thought occurred to her. The real reason she couldn't sleep was Sonny. He should be here. Kicked back in that ugly green chair, refusing to leave. His brow crinkled in amusement as she tried to insist he go home and get some rest.
"Come on, what do you think I'm gonna say to that. " He would say.
"I'm fine, we're fine. Go home. There's nothing else you can do here." She would insist. He would insist. Both equally stubborn but he would win in the long run and she would be secretly pleased that he had nowhere else he would rather be.
She sighed heavily and covered her face with her hands. Maybe she was too hard on him. She knew he was the best thing that had ever happened to her. And as far as flaws went, he had very few. She had genuinely lucked out in the boyfr–-Fiance department. But he had lied to her. Kept a horrible secret for years. What it must have been like to live with something like that.
What he thinking? She asked herself but she knew the answer. He was thinking he couldn't lose her, no matter what the cost. How could she be mad about that? That he regarded her life even before his own beliefs, his own morals.
But he had lied, he'd kept secrets from her. They had always been the kind of couple that didn't do those things. But she had kept things from him too. She had kept her pregnancy a secret. Not intentionally. She just didn't want to get her hopes up after last time. And with Carson reappearing in their lives it was a lot to take in. A lot to process. But whether she had meant to or not she had kept it from him. And he ended up learning of it from Carson of all people! Even after that he didn't get angry. He understood her better than she did herself sometimes and he knew exactly what was going on in her mind. And he knew that Carson finding out and then rubbing it in Sonny's face was just another mind game of his. He hadn't blamed her for a second.
He really was an amazing guy. Maybe that's why the news of his betrayal shook her so hard. She had never expected something like that from him.
Oh how she wished he was here now. Sitting by her bed, gently squeazing her hand. She needed him here.
A shadow fell across the room. She turned her gaze from the monitor to the door, a wave a relief washed over her as she saw her Sonny standing in the doorway. It was really like he could read her mind. His still wore the clothee he had thrown on in a hurry the night before. His regularly put together suit was disheveled, he shirt untucked, his jacket undone. The gel from his hair had loosened and it began to fall out of place. He looked like all he had done was worry all night long.
Before she knew it tears began to fall from her eyes, quiet sobs escaping her mouth.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He came closer sitting on the bed. She sat up, her arms flew around his shoulders, and she pulled him close, burying her head in his chest. Taking in the scent of his musky cologne mixed with the cold New York air.
His arms instinctively wrapped around her and he rubbed her back, trying to calm her. "What happened? Is the baby okay?" He looked at the monitor but wasn't sure what all those lines meant.
She pulled away, wiping her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, it's not that." She sighed. "I'm just really glad to see you."
"Yeah?" He couldn't hide his smile. That beautiful, contagious smile.
