JULIETTE
I dragged Nott out of the empty classroom, trudging past varieties of staring students. I know that we didn't do anything, but they didn't know that. What would Daphne think?
I looked over at Nott, he didn't seem to care. I however was twirling my hair, something I often did in awkward situations.
"Why'd you drag me in there? It definitely wasn't so I could explain to you the negative reactions that are triggered if you call a woman feisty, so why'd you drag me in there?" I asked Nott skeptically.
"You were about to get detention. Starting a fight like that, using your wand? That's pure idiocy, I thought you were better than that," he shook his head playfully. "Since I realized you weren't I had to get you out of there before any teachers got in the mix."
"Oh." I replied to his explanation, "thanks."
"Anytime." he smiled. "I should go find Daphne, I told her I'd meet up with her about an hour ago.." his sentence trailed off and he started walking away.
"Okay." I said quietly, a hint of disappointment in my voice. I knew he couldn't hear me but I still felt obligated to reply.
Many classes later, my day finally came to a close. No more irritating teachers, no more talk about the school's drama, no more human contact, period. I was done with today. Unfortunately, I had loads of homework assignments and essays I needed to finish by tomorrow. It was definitely a challenge but nothing I couldn't get done.
I picked a seat by the fire in the Slytherin common room and started working on my Defense Against the Dark Arts essay. Umbridge was so nasty, she needed everything done the way she wanted it. Plus, she thinks she's the boss of everyone, just because she works for the Ministry of Magic. It didn't help that she didn't like me. I have no idea why, maybe it was because I was thirteen minutes late to her class, maybe it's because I answered four questions incorrectly, maybe it's because I tried to Avada Kedavra her under my breath. I really don't know but I see know reason to dislike me.
I pulled out a sheet of parchment and a quill. I started writing what I remembered, halfway through the first page I came to a blank. I really should've paid more attention in class. How am I supposed to write a three page essay about spells when we didn't even do any? Sure, I knew tons of spells. For instance, Expelliarmus, disarming a target; Diminuendo, to shrink objects; Multicorfors, to change the target's clothes; plus a ton more like Morsmordre, which is one my father accidentally taught me, to conjure the dark mark.
Though I was advanced for this class, everyone was advanced for Umbridge's class. Even the house elves were advanced for it. It was extremely boring and put me in excruciating mental pain.
I hadn't realized I zoned out until I was brought back to reality by a familiar voice, "hey you." I looked up and met those dazzling blue eyes. I quickly shot my head back to my paper.
"Hey Juliette!" Daphne called from across the hall.
"What?" I called back, in a quieter, yet still loud, voice.
"Why did I just hear from Parkinson that you came out of an empty classroom with my boyfriend?!" she accused me furiously.
"You're insane Greengrass," I commented, trying to keep my voice calm. "He dragged me in there because I was about to get into a fight with Granger. We didn't do anything, ew." I reassured her. It wasn't a lie, yet I kind of wished Nott and I did do something...
"Oh." she replied flatly, "sorry."
"It's okay, I didn't mean to give you a mini heart attack. You know I'd never do anything whatsoever with your boyfriend." I explained to her.
"Yeah, I'm sorry Ravens." she apologized again.
"It's really alright Daphne." I gave her a small smile and she walked away.
I rolled my eyes, the whole interaction was so stupid. I did know though that Daphne would be watching me like a hawk. I did not need any new enemies, I had my fair share of those already.
I the corner of my eye I noticed he gave me a confused look and took a seat next to me, his leg brushing against mine.
"Whatchu doing?" he asked me, making small talk.
"Homework." I replied flatly.
"Need any help?" he suggested politely.
"No," I replied, "what makes you say that?"
"I don't know you looked like you needed help," he shrugged.
"Well I don't! I'm doing perfectly fine!"
"Alright, alright, I didn't;t know 'perfectly fine' was staring into space for like twenty minutes," he shrugged, holding in a laugh.
"Shut it!" I smacked his arm playfully.
"Whatever!" he replied smirking, "you know you need help. What can I do for you m'lady?" he asked me as mockingly politely as his voice would allow him without bursting out laughing.
"Well, I may or may not need help with this Defense Against the Dark Arts essay." I replied, caving into his accusation.
"Do you want my help?" he made sure to clarify.
"Yes please." I muttered
"Hmm?" he questioned, a challenging smirk plastered on his stupidly perfect face.
"I would love your help." I responded louder with the fakest preppy voice I could do.
"Well then all you have to do is ask," he smirked.
We worked on the essay for almost an hour when I finally understood and wrote all of the parts down. He really did know a lot about Defense Against the Dark Arts. A little too much.
"Is that all?" he confirmed with me.
"Not even close, " I sighed in defeat, "but I think I can handle the rest on my own. Thanks for you assistance."
"Any time," he smiled and walked off.
I couldn't hold back my smile anymore. He gave me butterflies that I couldn't deny. He made me laugh so hard my face turned red and my eyes water. He was perfect, his features, his personality, his voice. Everything about him was perfect. But if I planned on keeping any friendship with any Slytherin girl whatsoever I'd need to find another man. Plus, Nott has a girlfriend, he doesn't have any feelings for me. He can't have feelings for me.
I sighed and decided to clear my head.
