The water felt like ice around me. Frigid to the point I was borderline shivering. But again, I found myself unbothered as I swam over to the person offering me freedom from my life as heir to the throne. He was going to free me from the chains that bound me, I could feel it.
Once I reached the siren, I was instantly captivated by those eyes of his—blue, like a clear sky. I grabbed for him, and he smiled, taking my hands in his. A sense of want overpowered me and I had the sudden urge to kiss him. However, right as I leaned forward to capture those voluptuous lips of his, he stopped me—grinning knowingly as he gently dragged his knuckle down my cheek.
"There will be time for that later, dear prince. For now, we must flee before they take you from me."
His voice echoed in my mind, and I found myself nodding as he grabbed my hands and pulled me under the surface. At first, things were seemingly fine. He kept his gaze on me and I continuously thought about the life I could have once he freed me.
But then the pain hit me. My chest was tightening the further we descended, and somewhere in the back of my mind screamed for oxygen. When the pain became too much to bear, the sirens hold on me was dispelled, and the heavy weight of fear and panic overtook me.
Panicking, I tried to pull away from him, but his grip was like iron, and now that I wasn't under his spell, I now could feel the pulsing white hot pain from his claws digging into the flesh of my arms. The siren grinned with malicious intent and pulled me closer to him—claws digging further in, causing the water around me to cloud with blood.
"Did you really think you were actually going to be freed, prince?" The siren chuckled, though his lips did not move. "You are loved by so many...and yet you are plagued with loneliness. You think everyone wants you because of your title." I struggled as best as I could when he pulled me against his chest and licked a long line against the side of my throat. "Loneliness tastes the best. So be a good boy and let me eat you!"
Scrambling as best as I could whilst being under water, I kicked my foot against his chest—surprisingly causing him to let go of me. At this point, my lungs were screaming for air, and blackness began cresting along the edge of my vision.
It wouldn't be long before I was overtaken by the darkness. Even less time before the rest of my life faded from me.
I was desperate, and I clawed and kicked in the water, trying to reach the surface. But I was weak. I could barely put any real efforts in my desperate attempts, and I felt so tired.
However...I had to get to Davian, I had to make sure he got home safely. I-I had to be there for him when he meets my—our—father.
My hand breeched the surface, but before I could get my head above water, the siren that had bewitched me grabbed my ankle and yanked me down—pulling me further away from my only chance at getting out of this alive.
At this point, my vision was rapidly dimming, and any fight I had left vanished—leaving me painfully spasming as I slowly began to lose myself. And as I began to feel my life slipping from me, I saw a vision of my family. You know how they claim your life flashes before you eyes on the brink of death? It was kind of like this, only it was my family that flashed into my mind.
My father—tall and proud, and stubborn to a fault.
My mother—affectionate, kind and funny.
My brother Drake, his wife and two beautiful daughters.
And Davian—smart...and so much stronger than I could ever be.
