Once I was able to finally get a good meal in my stomach, I began to use that newfound energy to begin planning how to defend ourselves in case we were attacked in the middle of the night again.
My thoughts first went to the place I now called home—the very place we three had poured our efforts into building from the ground up. The windows would need to be fortified. And while I knew deep down that, that probably would not stop someone who could bend reality with their mind...I felt oddly...safer with the idea of boxing ourselves in our home protectively.
Fortifying the door would be next, only once we three were inside. Of course, we would need to make sure we had enough food in case we had to stay within for more than a few nights. While I had faith in Narvi's ability to find whoever was terrorizing us...I merely wanted to cover as many avenues as I possibly could.
Especially since any one of our lives were on the line.
They had attacked me first—almost succeeding in taking me out a second time, had it not been for Aerylin and Heltha's aid. Then, they separated Narvi and I and severely hurt him, and they no doubt would have killed them if I hadn't snapped from the spell that controlled me and ran to his aid.
So far, the only one who hadn't been targeted as of yet was Alaban. However...
I glanced from where I had been hammering a board across one of the living room windows to the man I was currently thinking of, watching as he furiously scribbled on a piece of parchment—his brows knitted in deep concentration.
Alaban also had magic to his advantage. And he was not only strong, but so, incredibly intelligent—more so than the man gave himself credit for. If anyone could protect himself against this individual...it was him. It did make me relax quite a bit knowing he was in this with us...with me.
Despite myself, a small smile twitched at my lips, though it was faint and lasted but a moment before I raised a hammer and began hammering down yet another borrowed nail.
"I think," Alaban spoke, breaking the monotony of repetitive thumps of our preparation, "I may have an idea on how I might tell if this person gets within our home, or not. I...I would just need to obtain some supplies in order to help this idea form into reality." He then stared at me, then glanced towards Narvi—as if he was warring with himself on whether or not to go or stay.
I placed the hammer down and made my way over to him, glancing briefly at his scribbled, frantic notes, before meeting his gaze. "Narvi and I will be ok here. How long do you think it will take you to get everything you need?"
Alaban glanced to the side, amber eyes glazed over in thought. "An hour. Hour and a half tops. There's quite a few things I need to gather that can only be found in town."
My brows pinched. "How close is the nearest town again?"
"With my magic, I can make it there fairly quickly."
I nibbled the inside of my cheek, and cupped his neck, thumbing his jawline. "Just...be careful, please? I want you to return to me...to us safely."
Alaban gently grabbed my hand, then pressed a deep kiss against my lips. "I will, Drakell. I promise you, I will be as safe as possible." He kissed me again, pulled back enough to stare at me a moment longer, before he grabbed his notes and stuffed them into his pocket. He then grabbed his coat, threw it around his shoulders, and left our home—the sun dragon disappearing in a cloud of amber light.
I switched over the lock on the door—as Alaban would no doubt have asked me to and finished nailing up the boards before taking a moment to make some lunch for Narvi and I to eat. And speaking of the moon dragon, I glanced over to where he placed down pillows and blankets—the man feeling it to be safer if we all remained together at all moments in time tonight.
