I wasn't entirely sure how long I had slept for, but when I finally gained consciousness and opened my eyes, I could see the strong beam of sunlight that shown through the windows—casting the room in a warm glow.
I blinked, my eyes still crusty and peered at the sleeping face of Narvi—the man cuddled against me, with his leg in between mine. I could also feel a warmth against my back and when I looked down, I saw Alaban's arm thrown around my waist, which meant he was snuggled behind me, creating a type of...cuddle sandwich.
I was incredibly comfortable here, between the arms of two men I held dear to me, and I couldn't help the way my cheeks warmed, and my heart fluttered in my chest—my gaze remaining on the moon dragon in front of me as his brows twitched, before his eyes opened to reveal those two light blue eyes of his. Being this close to him...I could see the small silver flecks within that gaze as he stared back at me—seemingly trying to read me.
I didn't back down, I stared back until his pale cheeks began to color, and eventually he cleared his throat and looked away, causing a small smile to form on my lips at his display. "Good morning, Narvi," I spoke, keeping my voice low as to not wake Alaban. Poor man probably went to bed much later than I did, so he probably needed the extra few minutes of sleep.
That light blue gaze flickered back towards me. "Good morning, Drakell."
"How are you feeling? Do you feel any pain at all..."
Narvi shook his head lightly and lifted his head enough to glance at his bandaged leg. "It doesn't hurt. Not anymore, at least." He huffed and flopped his head back onto the pillow. "Heltha is very good at what she does—I will need to see if she will allow me to have the recipe for that paste she used."
I felt my smile diminish a bit as the events from last night finally caught up with me, now that I was a little more awake. "What happened, Narvi? How did you...how did you get like that? Y-You scared the hell out of me, you know that right?"
A frown immediately spilled across the moon dragon's lips as his gaze slipped from mine, his brows pinching as he thought back to the night prior. "Someone...lured me. Forced me to go that way, though..." he paused, gaze flickering to the side, "I didn't see the hole until it was too late. All I felt was pain, and then..." he nibbled at his bottom lip, his brows once again pinching together, "everything else is a little...fuzzy."
Magic. That had to be what caused Narvi to follow blindly like that, and it was something I had once experienced. I remember not being able to control my own body when I had been charmed by that siren. I remember feeling helpless beneath the magic, and if I had felt that way, Narvi must have felt the same. I hated that he had to go through that...all alone, since I had walked off...gods I had been stupid. Why did I leave him? Why...
I halted my internal questions, my mind circling on the thought that perhaps I had been charmed as well. I mean, why else would I leave Narvi alone? My instincts as the man I was, was to protect people. I would never walk away from them when there was danger around.
Unless I had also been magically swayed.
That lingering fear from the night before began to creep back up my spine, my stomach curling in knots as I realized that if this person was powerful enough to charm two people to follow their orders so easily...how the hells was I going to make it out of this alive? How do I protect myself from such powerful magics? I was just a man, I-I couldn't compete with...
My thoughts halted when I felt a warm hand gently glide against my cheek. I blinked, pulling out of my head and focusing on Narvi, my eyes immediately zeroing in on the pout pulling at the moon dragon's lips. "Stop stressing. You will hurt your heart, Drakell." His gaze grew soft, and after a silent moment, he lifted his head and pressed a gentle kiss against the corner of my lips, causing my heart to go into overdrive as it began beating wildly against my chest.
He pulled away for a moment, his gaze on my lips...however, the moment he moved forward for another one, a knock sounded on our door, causing my heart to nearly leap from my chest in fright, as Heltha poked her head of curls in, an apologetic look on her face.
"Sorry to bother you boys, but you have a visitor."
She pushed the door open wider, and Aerilyn made her way inside with a concerned look on her dark face. And when her eyes fell onto Narvi's leg, they snapped to his face and her look of concern turned into worry as she rushed over. "What in the heaven's happened to you, Narvi? Heltha told me you got hurt, so what happened?"
As she asked Narvi all this, I felt Alaban shift behind me, his sister's not-so-quiet voice having roused him from his sleep. He seemed a bit confused at first, as his brows furrowed and a frown made its way onto his full lips, but after a moment—he was smart like that—he seemed to catch on and decided to remain silent, as he waited for Narvi's response.
Was he going to tell her about the individual who wanted to take my life? Was he going to tell her that it was a sun dragon, possibly someone she knows? Maybe she could help, she has magic as well, my mind supplied. Maybe she can help us figure out who is doing this to us.
I looked at Narvi, waiting for his response.
The man in question merely shrugged, gaze on the female sun dragon. "I drank too much sunshine and found myself falling into a large hole. I'm ok now, Heltha took good care of me."
Heltha nodded and crossed her arms, looking quite confident with herself. "You're dang right I did." She then placed a hand on Aerylin's shoulder, giving it a pat. "It's not the first time I've delt with drunken dragons injuring themselves, dear." She glanced at Narvi, giving him an almost...knowing nod, before turning her gaze back towards Alaban's sister. "Now, come let these boys wake up and follow me into the kitchen. I've a lot of mouths to feed and I need some help with breakfast. I promise to let you nibble on some bacon."
Aerylin gave one more look to Narvi, before she sighed and nodded, turning to follow Heltha. "I'm glad you're ok Narvi. You should probably lay off the sunshine for now, because I'd rather you not hurt yourself like this again."
Narvi nodded, giving her a soft smile. "I promise to "lay off" the sunshine."
Aerylin huffed and left the room, thankfully closing the door behind her to give us three a bit of privacy. Alaban moved first, the man pressing a sweet kiss against the top of my head before his amber gaze slid over to Narvi.
"How's your leg?"
Narvi shrugged and shifted to sit up. "It doesn't hurt right now, and," he began wiggling his toes, "I can wiggle my toes, so I think I'm ok."
Alaban nodded, seemingly relieved as he also sat up and ran a hand through his messy hair.
I sat up as well and leaned back against the headboard. "Alaban, someone magically tricked us...forced us to be separated. I don't know what they're planning...but, they have to be powerful to take over to two people...right? H-how do we fight someone like that?"
Alaban looked away, and though he was not facing me directly, I knew the man enough to know when he was deep in thought. After a moment, he glanced at me, his amber gaze searching mine for what felt like the longest time, before he finally spoke.
"Maybe...Maybe it is time for us to leave."
A/N: So, fair warning, chapters may be a litttttle choppy when it comes to when I post them, mainly because I am doing a deep, deep clean of my house and man, it's hard to get rid of a dead loved one's stuff, no matter how long they've been gone. So that's where most of my attention has been going to, which is why I missed last week's chapter, and why it may be choppy going forward. Don't worry though, this obviously won't be a permanent thing, but it may be annoying to a bit, and for that I humbly apologizeeeeee
And, I still have not gotten word back from Wattpad whether or not I can repost the first book to this series, Bound By Chains, or if I'll have to move my writings to a different platform. I'd really rather not leave, but having them unpublish works of mine that had taken months to write, its no fun at all.
Anywho, with that said, I hope you all enjoyed the chappppterrrrrrr! Lemme know what you think, I love going through yall's feedback!
