Alex woke up to find himself in a hospital bed. "What?" He thought. He sat up and looked around. "What on earth happened?" He whispered to himself.

He looked at all of the cords hooked up to him. "Ugh," he groaned as he put his hand to his head. What a terrible headache!

Alex was still confused and wondered where his family was. "Dad? Mom?" He even called for his sister. "Kaylee? Are you here?"

A doctor walked in. "How are you, Alexander?"

"I'm fine, please call me Alex," responded Alex. "So, uh...what's going on? What happened?"

The doctor wore a serious look on his face. "Well, you were in a really bad accident. Do you remember anything?"

Alex though for a minute. "No, I don't. Could you describe it to me?"

"You were driving to the school with your girlfriend. You rolled through a stop sign and were t-boned by a pickup truck," said the doctor.

Alex gasped, remembering what happened. Then, he started crying, worried for Juliette, knowing that the whole thing was his fault. If only he hadn't rushed and would've just driven safely. "Is Juliette okay?"

"She was lifeflighted to a larger hospital an hour from here. You can be released from here in a half hour if you are still doing okay. You should probably see her," said the doctor.

Alex cried even harder. "Do you know any details of how she's doing?"

"As far as I know, she's still unconscious and hasn't woken up since the accident," answered the doctor.

It was insanely difficult for Alex picturing his full of life girlfriend. Juliette, laying lifelessly in a hospital bed. She was always so...so...jubilant. Yeah- that's how he'd describe her. Jubilant. She made the most out of everything and was always so happy. That's the special thing about her. That's why he liked her. That's why she stood out to him.

"Please tell me when the half hour is up," requested Alex.

"I sure will," said the doctor. "Are you doing alright? Do you need anything else?"

"Oh, I just have a little bit of a headache," said Alex. "Is my family here?"

"Headaches are normal," said the doctor, "and yes, your parents and sister are here. I'll get them."
