Toby wasn't allowed to chew on many things, having what calmed him down the most taken from him. All of the strings from his jackets have been removed, and tight gauze layered itself from his palms to his elbow. His nails were coated with nasty chemical tasting polish so he wouldn't bite them.
Once Toby starts to gnaw on his nails, he doesn't know when to stop, not being aware of the pain.
This was starting to take a toll on his inner cheek, as the days went by, he would chew on it, feeling the skin peel off was a feeling Toby couldn't explain. But it felt nice. He'd usually stop when he tasted blood, but this time he just couldn't. With it being the last month of school, and home being a place he couldn't run back to when he was sad, stress built up like a tower ready to fall.
Toby chewed deep into his face, and eventually, there was nothing left to chew. Coming home one day with a small hole in the side of his face, Connie was the first to freak out. She used gauze patches to hide it, trying to find ways to fix this only stressed her out.Toby didn't understand but he knew he really messed up. He permanently scarred his face, if not completely ruined it.
It was absolutely disgusting, if examined closely, bits of his teeth were exposed. It was also very bloody, and overall ripped. You'd think this would concern people at school but that just gave the kids another reason to pick on him.
It just gave him another reason why he isn't normal.
They didn't have to wear a stupid gauze patch on their faces, they didn't have to keep their arms covered in bandages just to keep themselves from eating their own skin.
Toby couldn't help he liked how it tasted, how it felt between his teeth.Of course the creature took this into interest, putting more dark things into his mind. Intrusive thoughts.
"Hey, hey pssstt, cut your tongue off,"
"You should stab your pencil into your eye, you'll get to leave class earlier~"
"See that kid over there? Slam her head into the locker, do it, do it you won't get caught."
And it only got worse…
"Hey you should jump from that high window right there, see it? See it?"
"Throw a chair at his head, bust it open and lick up the blood."
"Cut a leg off, you won't feel it, not like you need two legs anyways right?"
"stop, stop, stop!"
"Hey stop it! Stop!"
Suddenly it was like Toby fell back to earth, only to be met with a hoard of kids all laughing and shoving him around outside of the school, calling him all kinds of names, of course spurring out that specific one here and there.
Toby held his head, letting his legs hold him up now. He was really beginning to realize just how unhealthy he has become.
He was being tossed around like a ragdoll. Kids were grabbing his bag, trying to dump everything out, just as a typical bully would, though some were grabbing at the bandage on his face, begging him to show them what he was hiding."Come on, show us! Can't be much uglier than what we already see right?" They all laughed, still holding onto him like an angry mother would her disobedient child. They wouldn't let go.
Laughter filled Toby's head, their echoing voices and giggles, chants. The looks on their faces were sharp, like they legitimately wanted to harm him, or worse."Hey! What's going on here?!" a stern voice rang out from the parking lot. The blonde girl was getting out and slamming the door. It was Lyra.
"Let go of my brother right now you little brat!" She shouted, inching forward angrily, it didn't look like she was going to hold back. This kid's response determined if he was leaving conscious or not.
"None of your business you scamp! And what if I don't? Huh? Gonna hit—"
The boy who was holding Toby didn't even finish his sentence before a fist was thrown straight at his face, knocking him back immediately.Lyra had hit him. The crowd of students gasped, but saw this as an opportunity to start a huge fight. Lyra wasn't having it, she started to pull her brother away from the kids, but Toby couldn't help but get a few punches himself, knocking some to the ground, and bloodying a few of their noses upon impact.
"Come on, Toby! We have to go okay! Dammit!" She tugged him again, finally getting a response to follow.
They both left in the car Lyra pulled up in. They went anywhere but home, finding themselves parked on an old bridge overpass that bridged a small river near the opening of the forest.
It all happened so quick, it was like at one point Toby was in a different world, and then the next he's sitting in the passenger seat, bloody nose and bloodied knuckles, Lyra's the same way.
