Y/n POV
I opened my eyes and took one last deep breath before getting out of my warm bed. Meeting the cool air once I sat up and turned off my alarm, my mind returned to the place it had been all of yesterday.

Was it really a dream?

I had failed to remember if everything that happened with Steve two nights ago had actually happened, or if it was all a figment of my imagination.

There was no way I'd know right now, so I got up and got ready to go to school.

...

"Hey, did you finish your project last night?" Josh asked me as we got into his car to drive to school.
"Oh shoot! Yes I left it in my room, thanks for reminding me!". I quickly jumped out of the car and raced into the house, up the stairwell and to my room. I knelt down and grabbed my project off of the floor and got up facing my closet.

My greaser clothes were visible from the opening!

I got up and shoved the clothes back deeper into my closet, then quickly shut its door and ran back to Josh's car. I must've forgotten to hide them better the other night.

Josh and I arrived at school, and surprisingly enough for a Monday, it was going by pretty fast and it was already lunch time. Normally during lunch, I sat alone in the back since I didn't really have any friends here. I took my regular seat and began eating when I noticed out of the corner of my eye someone staring.

I looked up at them, confused as to who it could be, and it was him.

Steve.

Our eyes locked for a minute.
Now I knew that that night must have been real.

He finally smiled at me, so I smiled back and gave him a small wave.

He then turned to his friends who he was sitting with, said something, and then they all got up and started walking to my table.

At first I didn't know what to think.
I was genuinely so confused.

Then after a second of processing I asked "what's going on?".
"Um we're joining you, is that ok?" Steve asked to which I replied with a head nod.
"Yeah sure" I finally spoke. It's not like they were bothering me.

"Oh these are some of my buddies" Steve began to introduce his friends and pointed down the line of people, saying their names when his finger came across them.
"This is Johnny, Ponyboy and Two-bit" he explained and I smiled at them.
"Nice to meet you all" I told them.

"Wow, I've never met a soc girl who was so nice to us" the one boy, I think his name was Ponyboy, said to me. This kid could be no older than fourteen and looked like he was in disbelief that we were sitting at the same table.

I chuckled at his comment, "I don't really believe in that greaser soc stuff anyways". They were all pretty surprised by that comment, well Steve less because of the night that we officially had met.
"Wow, we've never met a girl like you, huh-" Two-bit paused waiting for me to say my name.
I remembered him from the diner.
"Y/n" I answered, "y/n" he repeated, finishing his sentence.

Then out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone storming over to our table. I turned my head to look at who it was.

Josh.

"Hey Josh" I spoke calmly, smiling at him quickly. He completely ignored my attempt at small talk and got straight to his point.

"I don't know what you think you all are doing sitting with my sister, but now I'm going to tell you to leave" he growled at them in a hushed tone, not trying to arouse the entire cafeteria.
"I'm not sure I know what you're talking about" Steve answered to his threat, raising his eyebrows.
"You know damn well what I'm talking about" Josh told him with a glare.
"We're just sitting here enjoying our lunch, I don't see a problem" Steve retaliated once again, to which Josh pushed his hands against our table and got real close to Steve's face, saying "people like you don't hang around people like us. Now get away from her before I make you".
