BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! I tried tuning out the alarm, but the blaring call for me to wake up broke through the stillness of the morning. "I guess that means I have to get up now huh?" I said. No one responded. A tinge of grief washed over me as I remembered that visit to the vet. The memory came back to me. The memory of sweet, little Heidi being put down. Oh, how I missed waking up to her loud purr. She used to wake me up just in time to turn off my alarm. As if she knew how much I hated it. I glanced over at the alarm clock, and saw the time 7:43 A.M. "Crap! I must've snoozed it a couple times!" I jumped out of bed; threw on whatever was on my chair, and headed to work

When I arrived I saw my boss waiting for me at my cubicle. His face red with anger. "This is your third time being late this week Sophia!" he yelled. "I'm sorry Clive. I accidentally slept in. I'll work through my lunch break." I responded. "This is your last chance! Next time you're fired!" he screamed. As he stomped away tears welled up in my eyes. I've been crying a lot more than I used to. I don.t what's up with that. I thought. I wiped away the warm tears and sat down. Opening up my drawer a saw a beat up old letter. It's the letter my grandpa gave me before he passed. I grabbed it; looked around to see If Clive was watching, and when I saw that the coast was clear I opened it. Inside it said this

Dear Sophia,

If you're reading this, you must be in dire need of a change. The same thing happened to me a long time ago. I'd lost sight of what mattered most in life... real connections with other people  and nature. So I dropped everything and moved the the place  where I truly belong. I've enclosed the deed to that place... My pride and joy Magnolia Hills Farm. It's located in Stardew Valley, on the southern coast. It's the perfect place to start your new life. This was my most precious gift of all, and now it's yours. I know you'll honor the family name, my girl. Good luck!

Love, Grandpa                       P.S.  If Lewis is still alive say hi to the old guy for me, will ya?

A tear rolled down my face as I smiled. I hadn't smiled in a long time. While reading this something happened to me. It felt like something had ignited. Could it be, a glimmer of hope?
