This went on for 3 years more years and the changes in the girls were apparent.
Sunny became very work-oriented if something wasn't done properly she would associate it with disappointment and disapproval. A reaction she would often receive from her grandmother if she made a mistake. Sunny became a people pleaser always wanting to make everyone proud but when met with failure she would degrade herself. Sometimes even punishing herself. After all, she was the head now and she had to be a role model for her sister.
Nabi became very cautious of not talking and eating fearing that she would get in trouble if she spoke out of turn or too much. She developed a deep fear of small close spaces due to her being constantly locked in her small room. Sometimes she'd go weeks without talking to anyone even if she wasn't being punished as she didn't know how to communicate with anyone without triggering the fear of speaking out of turn.
According to her grandma and the guest she would have over, Nabi's only redeeming trait was the fact that she was "skinny". This led to her developing eating disorders as she thrived to keep her body shape in order to make her grandma accept her for something.
But even that was disregarded as Nabi simply became " too skinny" at the age of 11. People started to talk and her grandma started to get aggressive with the punishments. No longer was she locked away. But she wished she was.
"Park Kwan where did you go?!", Jong-gil's mom yelled as both 14 years old girls walked through the gate into the yard.
"I took her to get some bracelets.", sunny said to their grandma.
Their grandma glanced at Sunny before looking at the stoic expression of Nabi.
"How could you be so careless?! I told you that you are not to leave this yard!", their grandma yelled at Nabi.
"It's not her fault. She told me that she couldn't leave but I convinced her.", Sunny pleaded standing in front of Nabi.
"She knew. She shouldn't have been convinced. Look at all the shame she put on this family already why must you insist on dragging this family down?", The grandma stated coldly glaring at the still stoic girl.
"Step forward.", their grandma continued causing Sunny's eyes to widen.
"No, Grandma, it was my fault. I-"
"Park Kwan, Step forward!", Their grandma cut off Sunny.
Sunny went to say something again when Nabi placed a hand on Sunny's shoulder and walked up to their grandma.
