Two Daughters
A mother tortured by her memories.
A father who has forgotten his story.
A broken red thread of faith that connects them.
In a world where reapers can be saviors. How will they mend the red string that has been broken?
Is it their des...
"Do you think he'll say yes?" Nabi asked her sister as they both walked through Jumadeung with one goal in mind.
To talk their dad into having dinner with them.
"I don't know, he'll probably have work" Sunny replies.
"But he's changed a little bit so maybe he'll be more open-minded," Nabi says.
"True but let's not get our hope up too much," Sunny responded
The girls arrived at Jumadeang and headed for their father's office they slightly cracked the door to glance inside and were met with a scene of their father hard at work.
"Yes?" Jong-il asked without looking up from the papers that were scattered in front of him.
They finally entered the room and were obviously anxious.
"Hey dad," they both said. This resulted in the man looking up from his work.
"Hello, girls," he says before going back to his work.
The girls began to aimlessly wander around the office until their father checked his watch and stood up abruptly which caught their attention.
"Let's go," he says with no context as to where they were going.
"Go where?" Sunny asked.
"Home, I'm making dinner," he said. The girls turned to each other with the same shocked expression.
"But don't you have work," Nabi chimes in.
"Yes, but I have completed a lot of it so it will be fine," he responded
"Next question. Do you know how to cook?" Sunny asks.
"I'm sure it won't be too difficult," the man responded. This resulted in nervous chuckles from the girls.
"I guess we didn't have to ask.", Sunny muttered in confusion causing Nabi to shrug just as confused at their dad's strange of behaviour.
Jong-il made his way to the door and held it open indicating to the girls to go first, which they did and he followed right after.
Sunny and Nabi sat around the dinner table in silence
"Has he ever cooked before?" Sunny asked in a worried tone as she watched he father move around the kitchen wearing a apron.
"I don't think so, this should be interesting" Nabi answered with an amused expression as her head rested in her left hand also taking in the efforts of their father.
"What is he even making" Sunny inquired watching as he grabbed some left over kimchi from the fridge.
"I don't have a clue I just hope it's edible" Nabi retorted with an amused snort.
"Hmmm" Sunny hummed in agreement.
A few minutes go by and both girl found themselves laying on the couch, scrolling through their phones as they waited on their father.
"Is something burning?" Sunny suddenly asked sniffing the air.
"You don't think..." Nabi trailed off looking over at her sister with wide eyes.
Both girls quickly sprung up and headed for the kitchen.
They were astonished by the site of numerous pots in the sink, smoke everywhere, and their father fanning the air in an attempt to get rid of the smoke as his apron had black smudges on it as well as his face.
The girls stood frozen with their mouths agape.
"You know for a person who has been around for a few centuries I thought you'd be able to cook a simple meal, I guess I overestimated you, dad," Sunny said with a slight chuckle folding her arms earning a sheepish smile from their father before glancing over at her sister who was completely frozen.
"Nabi? Nabi? Nabi-ah!" Sunny shouted to her sister nudging her causing Nabi to blink quickly at her father.
"You good?" Sunny asked.
"Yea I'm good, I'm just surprised that the man who always strives for perfection just perfectly ruined the food, but can you blame him all he does is work," Nabi said causing her and her sister to burst into a fit of laughter.
Jong-gil looked at them with a small smile laced with a hint of guilt.
"Should we just order in?," Jong-il asked moments later as the laughter died down.
"Yeah, that sounds good," Nabi responded sitting on the counter before her father walked to her and nudged her off causing her to hop off the counter with a pout and groan.
"Let's order chicken," Sunny said excitedly.
"You always order chicken though!" Nabi exclaimed.
"Yea, what's your point, chicken is delicious," Sunny said in response.
"All I'm saying is at this rate you're gonna fly away," Nabi said with a laugh.
"Ah, then I'll be one with my people," Sunny said holding her chest with pride
"NO, then you'l be classified as a cannibal", Nabi joked
"Cannibal? Why?", Sunny asked confused.
"For eating your own kind.", their father chimed in causing Sunny to gasp and Nabi to chuckle.
"Well, it had to be done. The circle of life and what not.", Sunny said proudly holding her chest again causing the trio to burst out in laughter.
Sunny nudges Nabi, Nabi looks at her with her eyes asking the question "what?" Sunny looks at their father who was eating then back at her sister. Nabi slightly shakes her "no". This continues until their father notices.
"What is it?" he asks
Nabi nudges her sister motioning for her to talk
"We were talking and wewerewondringifyouwantedtogoonatripthatwe'vebeenplanningforthepasttwoweeks," Sunny says almost out of breathe
Nabi takes her glass of water to her mouth in anticipation of their father's response.
"Ok" he response
" Yea we understand that work is important it's fine maybe some other time" Sunny replies not hearing the response.
Nabi started choking on her water in disbelief at the man's answer.
"Wait what?" Sunny asked Nabi still choking on her water.
"Let's go tomorrow what did you guys have in mind," he asked
Nabi, who could finally breathe again, grabs her sister's arm.
"Am I dead again?", Nabi muttered in disbelief.
"Then we both died again. Is this heaven?", Sunny muttered with the same disbelief.
"Hey!", Jong-gil yelled before leaning forward to playfully bump their heads together causing both girls to yelp in pain.
"Definitely hell", Nabi muttered rubbing her head and earning a nod from Sunny and a scoff from Jong-gil.
