He told me of my real parents, Lily and James Potter. How they were when they went to school, them getting married, what they did for the wizarding world and how they died trying to protect everything they loved from Voldemort. He told me about my brother Harry too. He is known as 'The boy who lived' even though he doesn't really know what happened when we were little. I had a famous brother and I couldn't be prouder of him though I don't know him. He now lives with our Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and cousin Dudley Dursley. By the way that Dumbledore had described them politely, I could tell they were nasty people. A small pang of anger rose in me thinking about if they had treated him badly. Then he started to explain me. I was Holly Lily Potter before I was taken away and there was a reason why no one knew about me. I was thought to be dead.
That's right. DEAD.
I was kidnapped by death eaters the day before Voldemort attacked my family. Dumbledore told me they had tried to track down them, but apparently this had been a thought out plan. They only managed to grab me though. Harry was left to Voldemort. My parents had been so distraught about my disappearance that it was the reason why Harry was alive today. They didn't want to lose their last child. They protected him like they couldn't protect me. And they died for Harry. They died for both of us. With the news of Voldemort gone, I was abandoned on the country side by a few merciful death eaters. They wrung out information on where I was dropped, but when the ministry got there. I was gone. It took all these years for someone to figure out I was still alive without knowing who I really was.
Dumbledore gave me a letter then and said that I would be going to Hogwarts to hone my magical skills and he was here to bring me to London with him.
But I couldn't do it.
I would be leaving my dad all alone in the house if I went. I couldn't do that to him just shortly after losing mom. I said I wouldn't go and Dumbledore accepted it much to the surprise of both me and my dad. Dad tried to reason with me, saying it was for a higher education and a better life. Dumbledore said that Harry would be attending too. As much as I wanted to be reunited with my long lost brother I was determined to stay home and be a 'pretend muggle.'
In exchange of me staying in the muggle world, I would keep in contact with Dumbledore when I could. He presented an egg to me, nicely wrapped and in a magical mini incubator from his coat cloak that said 'Happy Birthday.' The minute I unwrapped it, it had hatched and a beautiful gray baby owlet had popped out to say hello to the world. I named him Seyfert. I was to raise this owl and send letters to him with it. I was just happy he even thought to get me something.
Before he had left for Hogwarts business I asked him one thing. Don't tell Harry about me. He looked at me rather oddly but respected my wish. He warned me if I did did magic at any time though, I would be in trouble and disappeared in the blink of an eye. That year I went to a normal muggle middle school with classmates from before. It went by slow, but fast at the same time if that made any sense at all. Seyfert grew and shed his baby feathers that were replaced with gray-er feathers. Turns out that Seyfert is a Great Horned owl from what I read in a book. I sent letters to Prof. Dumbledore with him (now calling him by his profession name), but he thought ahead and sent a veteran owl to help train Seyfert until he could deliver thing on his own.
Dad and I healed more and more over mom and he told me stories of their days back on the countryside of England. He explained that finding me on the road back to the house was one of the weirdest, but best things to happen to them. They were coming back from the hospital with bad news about not being able to have kids. They heard wailing and stopped to see me.
“Like a blessing you were. A chubby little alien blessing!” I quote him.
It had finally come around to my 12th birthday when I received another letter to Hogwarts from Prof. Dumbledore. Dad and I had taken a trip to London and followed direction from him to gather things for the new school year. I had finally felt that I was ready to go, but everything else didn't seem to agree. My plane to England had been canceled due to some technical problems and the soonest flight to London was a few hours later. Dad said it was fine and went to exchange tickets. I wanted to go with him and had the misfortune of not looking where I was going and slipped on wet floor, knocking me out. I woke up two days later in a hospital on September 2. I went back to muggle school, but studied up on magical spells, potions and creatures at home. I didn't want to be left behind went I finally went to Hogwarts.
Now I am presently 13 years old, and lying awake in bed with the jitters. It's the night before my flight to England for the second time this year and one day before leaving to Hogwarts. Our first visit was to get the school supplies and new robes. I had grown—ummmm—in certain places in the past year so my old robes didn't fit the chest area properly. We spent a little time there before we went back home. The day we got back to the states I wanted time to go faster so I could finally go to Hogwarts. I looked at my clock at my side table and read it quietly out loud.
“4:31 A.M.... This is taking too long!” I whispered harshly.
I sat up in bed and looked at Seyfert. He was awake already, waiting for dawn to approach. He screeched in hunger and I put a finger to my lips to shush him.
“Hold on Seyfert. Let you out in a minute so you can eat, okay?” I talked to my owl.
He understood and settled back down into a tucked form. His eyes followed me as I got up to cross the room to a drawer. I pull it open and saw neatly stacked letters in it. I took out the first few letter on top before I closed the draw once again. I walked to his cage now. Unlatching the the hatch on the cage, Seyfert hopped out and glided on my bed to settle down on it. He cheeped like he did when he was a baby looking at me then to my window. For something that can scare you in the night, he was a very magnification and adorable creature. I did what he wanted and opened the window. No sooner had I done it, he lept up and flew into the early morning sky to hunt.
I watched him fly away and into the distance, dreaming of Hogwarts Castle. I opened the letters in my hand and and took out it's contents. With ever letter came a picture Dumbledore had sent me of varies things at Hogwarts. They all moved; some were random shots of the school grounds, some where of Dumbledore himself giving a wave hello, even a picture of my real mom and dad, but the last few were pictures of Harry, my brother. He looked like our father, but had our mother's eyes when I looked the opposite. I wouldn't have thought we were related if I didn't know better.
I looked at the pictures of Harry and his friends, Ron and Hermione, as Dumbledore has told me. They all seemed to be having fun. There were just pictures of them studying or Harry playing Quidditch with them on the side lines or them just taking a picture together. I grew nervous as I stared on at the magical pictures. What if Harry didn't like me? Will he be glad to see me? A real blood relative other than the Dursleys? Would he accept me as his sister or will it be awkward between us? Harry seemed like a nice guy, but getting a sister out of nowhere could really throw him off. I didn't want to have him hate me.
There was a pain in my chest and I tried to sooth it with deep breaths. I looked at the clock. 6 o' clock. I guess I looked at the pictures for a lot longer than I thought.
'Time to get ready for the new school year.' I thought peacefully as I set down the photos and got ready for my new life as an official witch.
