I tried to fix up my appearance as dad did check in with my suitcases. A simple white short sleeved shirt with a v-neck, a red plaid plated skirt, black mid-calve converses and knitted barrette was all I could put on after my shower. My long hair wasn't even fully dry yet. You see, dad had mistaken an 8 for a 9 on my flight ticket and by the time he realized he was wrong it was already 7 o' clock. We had to rush everything this morning to be where we're standing right now at the airport.
“Hurry pumpkin! The flight is boarding in a half hour and we have a lot to do before you leave for school!” dad urged me on as we left the luggage drop off and tried our best to navigate through the crowds of people.
I pushed my way through the stuffy crowd with Seyfert and my messenger bag on a cart. Dad was further up ahead of me, but I could tell where he was because he was wearing his favorite hat today which was a fishing hat with all sorts of nicknacks sticking off of it. It was a ridiculous hat, but it suited him well. And it was easy for a 5' 2” girl like me to spot something like that in a sea of people. As I said my 'excuse me's and 'pardon me sir/madam's I had gotten a few stares from young and old alike and all of them were aimed at Seyfert who was trying to take a nap from his full belly of, what I'm guessing for today, rabbit.
“Is that an owl?” I heard a woman say out load to another woman.
“Mommy look at the bird! It's an owl!!!” a couple of kids said to their mothers.
“Why is she carrying an owl?” a man in a suit asked himself, but soon started talking into his cell phone saying he said nothing to the person on the other line.
I didn't feel self-conscious about carrying around Seyfert. I felt really proud to have him as my pet. Who has a pet owl in this time and age now anyways? But all the staring was getting a little creepy and I knew he could feel that eyes were on him because the little guy kept peaking out at me with a 'make them stop' stare. He wanted some sleep before he had to work and I felt really bad that I forgot his cage cover at home from the rush.
“Jaden! Over here sweet-pea!” I heard my dad's voice call from my left. I headed his way pushing past a few more people until I saw him sitting comfortably in one on the waiting chairs near the boarding dock meant for London bound passengers.
“Took you long enough slow poke!” he tease me, poking my arm as I sat down.
“Well you don't have a cart to push around,” I said back.
“Hope not too many people mind that you're bringing an owl on board do they,” dad chuckled as he looked at the people who thought they were discreetly staring surrounding up. “Looks like my kind has never seen an owl before love.”
“Oh please dad. You aren't like a lot of muggles. You're cool,” I said to him as I played with something on his hat.
“You really think so dear?” he asked with a smile. I nodded my head.
“You're a peach you know that?”
“Dad I'm not going to turn into food if you keep calling me some sort of fruit of vegetable every chance you get!”
“But that would amazing wouldn't it?! Then you really would be my little peach!”
We had a good laugh for a few second before Seyfert start to chitter in his cage. I look back and Seyfert looked at the both of us annoyed.
“Oops! Sorry mate! Forgot you were sleeping,” dad apologized to Seyfert. He bowed to him then turned to me, giving a hiss.
“Don't take that tone with me young owl,” I playfully scolded him. “It was an accident and you know I didn't mean to wake you up.”
