Beomgyu had been working at Cafe Fluttershy for about a month now. The 20 year old was initially gonna apply for a university but he had failed to get the scholarship, not to mention that he could really need the money, so he had decided to start working instead.
It was your usual Thursday afternoon. Beomgyu and his coworker Taehyun were alone on the closing shift but that was okay, because there weren't many customers. He was a little confused by that – the cafe was usually overflowing with customers at this time of the day – but he didn't think too much of it as that meant less stress.
Beomgyu was currently behind the counter. Noone was in line but he could feel eyes staring at him from behind. He just let out a subtle sigh and started refilling the coffee machine. From the corner of his eyes, he could see Taehyun looking in his direction, almost as if he was inspecting him. Sure, it was a little creepy but Beomgyu was used to it. Ever since his first day here, his coworker had been like that.
Sometimes, when they were talking to each other, Taehyun would suddenly mumble something under his breath. It was usually not really audible to him, but one time he was able to understand the name 'Yeonjun'. He didn't know a Yeonjun but he also never asked Taehyun about it. Just felt like it wasn't any of his business.
He heard the door open and returned to the counter. A tall man with platinum blond hair and a suit had just entered. A group of high-schoolers who were sitting at a table in the corner started whispering and giggling. Beomgyu couldn't really blame them. He was hella handsome for starters but there was also something different... Something about his aura? Beomgyu quickly shook off that thought. He didn't want to get all spiritual about this.
»Hello–« Before he was able to take his order, Taehyun rushed to the man and grabbed him by the arm.
»Soobin, wth are you doing here? What bad news do you...« He looked around and as he saw everyone staring at them, he quickly dragged the man to the back.
Beomgyu watched them leave and then continued staring at the closed door. After a while he checked the cafe and since there were still no new customers he rushed to the back too, as quietly as he could. Technically, he knew that he shouldn't eavesdrop but he was confused and bored... and maybe a little bit of an overly curious idiot sometimes.
»...ou here?« Beomgyu was finally able to make out Taehyuns voice. He ducked next to a cabinet and just hoped that they wouldn't notice him.
»I was looking for you. It's about Yeonjun.« He couldn't see his pink-haired coworker but he heard him sigh. So that stranger also knew this Yeonjun guy.
»What did he do this time?«
»Uhm... he ran away.« There was a long pause. Taehyun seemingly didn't know what to say.
»Honestly, I can't blame him.«
»Taehyun–«
»I wouldn't want to live like that either«, Taehyun interrupted him. Now it was Soobins turn to sigh.
»I know, Taehyun. If I could, I would help him but even I don't know how to stop fate.«
Fate? Beomgyu was even more confused now.
»Okay, but what do we do now?« Taehyun asked.
»Well, of course they want him to be found and brought back asap. There's some instructions for you. I will send them to you later but now I have to go.«
Beomgyu heard them move and quickly shuffled away from them, back into the cafe and behind the counter. Fortunately, there was a lady standing there, waiting for him to take her order and distract him.
»I'm terribly sorry ma'am, what can I get you?«
»I would like a...« Beomgyus attention drifted to his side, where the blonde stranger, Soobin came out from the back. For a second, they made eye contact and Beomgyu shifted his eyes back to the customer. Something about that guy was weird. Soobin then made his way to the door and left the cafe.
»..ster? Mister?« Beomgyu realized he wasn't paying any attention to the woman in front of him.
»Oh sorry, I didn't catch that. Would you mind repeating your order?«
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the day continued as per usual. But Beomgyu did notice how Taehyuns mood changed after Soobin was gone. He was usually very quiet and polite but now he seemed a little impatient. Like he couldn't wait for the shift to end. Beomgyu had quickly made up his mind to ask Taehyun some questions later.
Taehyun had just turned off all the lights and Beomgyu finished the last few dishes.
»Well, I'll go then. See you tomorrow!«
»Taehyun wait!« Beomgyu walked up to him. »I have a question real quick.«
His coworker looked nervous but nodded slowly.
»Who is Yeonjun?« Taehyun froze a little.
»How do you know that name?«
»I heard you say it once and I'm just curious.« The pink-haired was tapping on the floor with his foot.
»He's... just an old friend. It's not important.« He had a quick glance on his watch and then turned to the door again. »Yo, I'm sorry but I really have to go now. Bye, Beomgyu.« Before he was able to answer him, Taehyun was already out of the door and gone.
