»Gee, don't flatter yourself. I'm just impressed that someone so ugly exists.«
Yeonjun scoffed. This stranger bumped into him and then had the audacity to be the one to get mad? Normally he would've started arguing with the brunette guy, but he couldn't draw any unnecessary attention to him right now.
So instead he just walked away, making sure he collided with the stranger while he did that. Without looking back again, Yeonjun pulled the hood of his black hoodie over his head and exited the store.
Man, all he had wanted to do was to get a hair brush but now there was no way he was gonna go back into that store.
Outside, he strolled down the street a little while before stopping in his tracks. He... had no idea where he was at the moment. He looked around like a lost puppy. Since he was standing in the middle of the sidewalk, he received a few glares from passing people.
Yeonjun wasn't used to this realm yet. All the streets, the buildings, the people's clothing – they all looked the same to him, bland and tasteless, so he had trouble finding the right way most of the time. He had read about this place but actually being there was different. And he preferred to put the blame on the place instead of his poor sense of direction.
»Yeonjun?« A familiar voice suddenly called out to him.
»Shit.« He started sprinting without even looking in Taehyuns direction. It was a Friday afternoon, the streets were full with people so he continuously had to slow down if he didn't want to run over some people.
»Wait! I just wanna talk!!« Pfft, sure. Yeonjun vanished into the next big crowd and immediately made his way into a near alley. He slowed down and kept walking. By the end of the path, he realized that it was a dead end. Hopefully he had already managed to shake Taehyun o–
»Yeonjun..« Ah, fuck.
He slowly turned around. »Heyyy Tae... I didn't expect to meet you here.« Deep inside he knew that he wouldn't stand a chance against the pink-haired, but he still eyed his surroundings for an escape route.
»Dude, I'm not gonna force you back.«
»Why would you help me?«
Taehyun was about to answer when they heard a loud growl.
...
»Yo when was the last time you ate?« Taehyun asked.
A light pink tint laid over Yeonjuns face as he averted his gaze. He shrugged his shoulders.
The shorter went up to him and started dragging him out of the alley by his wrist. »Tae wha–«
»You gotta eat.«
Well, Yeonjun knew that. But he also didn't know shit about human food, much less where to get it, so he had been ignoring his stomach the entire day.
They went up to a food stall and Taehyun ordered something called Tteokbokki. Yeonjun didn't know what that was but the smell made his stomach growl again.
When Taehyun took out his wallet, Yeonjun insisted that he would pay for his own food and went to pull out his money but Taehyun swiftly stopped him from doing so.
»Don't. Your money won't work here.« Oh.
They took their food and sat down on a nearby bench. Yeonjun hesitantly started eating. It was weird for him to eat in public while strangers could see him. And he was used to having a table, a plate and cutlery in front of him.
After a while, Taehyun broke the silence. »You read so much shit about the human realm back home but didn't know they have a different currency?« He giggled and Yeonjun almost choked on a rice cake.
Yes, he had read a lot about it. But he was also forgetful.
»Tae wtf.« His eyes were teary now.
»And your hair looks like shit lol.«
»I KNOW T_T are you just here to insult me???«
Taehyun looked at him more seriously now. »No... But also, why wouldn't I help you? I'm not your best friend just to rat you out like that.« He cleared his throat. »...although I should probably not get caught.«
Yeonjun nodded, his eyes fixated on his hands. The Tteokbokki was gone by now. »Sorry for causing trouble again btw... I just... you know how it is.«
»I understand but I also worry about you. I mean, if it wasn't for me you would probably starve to death soon.«
Yeonjun let out a heartless laugh. »Yeah... death. Doesn't everyone want me dead anyway?«
»That's... not true.« Taehyuns voice turned into a whisper.
»Yes, it is.« Yeonjun lifted his head to look at the sky. »But my fate isn't their fault.«
»Well. I prefer you alive.« He could hear the embarrassment in Taehyuns voice and turned to look at him.
»Yeah, but you're the exception«, he laughed and ruffled through the younger's pink hair. After Taehyun got rid of Yeonjuns hand in a fake-angry manner, the two went silent for a while.
...
»So...« Yeonjun began. »How's your task going?«
»Good, we found him already. His name's Beomgyu.« He could see that Taehyuns leg started shaking nervously.
»Mhm, okay. Beomgyu, then. What's gonna happen to him?«
»I don't know tbh. But I think they wanna imprison him for now.« Yeonjun didn't answer. »You know... unless Kai gets to him first.« That caught the black-haired's attention now.
»Wait who's Kai?« He heard Taehyun mumble a tiny ah fuck.
»Destya. I meant unless Destya gets to him first. You know, the kingdom that we're currently at war with? Haha. Kai's a friend of mine, I just accidentally said his name instead.« Yeonjun wasn't fully convinced but he also didn't feel like digging further at the moment.
»Okay.« The younger immediately relaxed again.
»But why would they imprison him?« Yeonjun changed the topic. »Don't they want everything to play out as prophesized?«
»I don't know what's going through your parents' heads. I'm only taking orders.«
...
»Tae?«
»Yes?«
»How the hell is my death supposed to stop a fucking war?« Taehyun sighed and couldn't answer for a while. Yeonjun started watching a bunch of kids who were trying to attract a stray cat.
»All previous prophecies have been just as vague as this one, Yeonjun«, Taehyun finally answered. »We don't know what's gonna happen but we do know that all of them eventually got fulfilled.«
This wasn't the first time that they'd had this conversation but Yeonjun had never been satisfied with the answer.
»Alright, whatever«, Yeonjun sighed. He just couldn't understand why his prophecy was the way it was. Being born to die in the most literal sense sucked.
»Anyway,« Taehyun stood up. »I won't do anything but I think you should consider going back to the castle.«
»Why?«
»Running away from your problems won't solve them.« Yeonjun groaned. Why did his friend have to become such an adult? »Maybe you should try to find a solution... elsewhere.« The black-haired couldn't shake off the feeling that Taehyun was hiding something from him. But that also made him more inclined to actually follow his advice.
»I'll think about it.«
A/N was anyone else obsessed with warrior cats as a kid?? idk if its just me but everytime I see the word prophecy my mind instantly goes to the starclan xD
