Yeonjun kinda regretted his decision to go back. He could've just stayed in the human world and followed Taehyun around to survive. But no, curiosity had gotten the best of him.
The castle was already in sight but so far Yeonjun had been able to avoid the guards. He didn't feel like getting caught and forcefully brought back. That would be way too embarrassing for his taste, the inevitable confrontation with his parents would be enough.
As he got closer he grew more and more nervous about facing his parents. Strict could be one word to describe them as well as overprotective. Yeonjun knew it wasn't just because of him being their child. It wasn't because he was a prince either. It was because he was destined to save the country or whatever. They had him locked up in the castle at all times because he was too important to lose.
But that just made Yeonjun even angrier. They were the ones who initiated the war in the first place and now they wanted their son to clean up the mess. Sure, every prince of Logon got a prophecy at birth and sure, every goddamn one so far had been fulfilled but even for the time that he did have at being alive, couldn't his parents just act like his parents for once?
He had gotten so lost in thought that he didn't notice a guard creeping up to him. After being tapped on the shoulder, he turned around. Shit.
The guard grabbed him by his biceps and alerted the others. A few more came running immediately.
»Yooo... No need to get so serious. I was about to return anyway.« Yeonjun wasn't expecting to get an answer but it still annoyed him. Only a few people were allowed to talk to him.
Instead, he got dragged the remaining way back to the castle without a single word being spoken.
After passing through the first gate and entering the garden, they were met with a very agitated Soobin. »Holy shit Yeonjun where the fuck whe–« The guards observed him attentively so he cleared his throat and calmed his voice.
»Everyone was concerned.«
»Sure«, Yeonjun mumbled absently. He did believe that Soobin had been worried, just not everyone else. They would never worry about him as a person.
»The queen is waiting in the dining room. I'm supposed to escort you there.« Yeonjun suppressed a groan. Let's get this over with.
The Blonde signalled the guards to leave them alone and they started silently walking through the garden.
»Were you in the human realm?« He nodded.
»How'd you like it?« Yeonjun interpreted this as Soobins awkward attempt at doing small talk. Of course they were able to hold a conversation – they were basically raised as brothers – but sometimes the younger would just be unable to socialize for a few minutes.
»What kinda question is that? I was there for maybe a day.« Soobin slowly nodded in agreement.
»But!« Yeonjun suddenly continued. »There was some random guy who bumped into me and then he got mad at me! Is that normal for humans?« He didn't know what about that one interaction got him so worked up but he couldn't forget about it.
»Uhm... I guess not?«
»Soobin, you're kinda useless right now.« He teasingly punched the taller's arm and got a laugh out of him this time.
That's also when they stopped in their tracks as they had approached the big gates to the castle. Yeonjun's smile vanished in an instant. He had always despised the color palette... or maybe there were just too many bad memories.
The gates were drenched in ivy green with golden branches going up the sides, ending in a huge flower each – the flowers clearly supposed to be withered. Most of the castle walls had recently been repainted, you could still smell the fresh brown paint if you really tried. Yeonjun grunted at all the golden accents covering the walls. He was tired of seeing gold everywhere and in his opinion they really overdid it this time.
