»Descendant? The fuck you talking about??« Beomgyu stared at Seola in confusion. He had gotten used to the idea of this being very much real and not a dream but this was getting a little too much now.
»Yep«, she continued. »Unfortunately, it seems like you grew up without learning about any of this.«
Beomgyu stood up. »I think I need some fresh air.« Without waiting for an answer, he left the room. Outside, he leaned on the railing of the terrace, staring into the darkness. He hadn't even noticed how late it was already. What time was it now? Like 9PM maybe? He didn't even have his phone on him.
»I know that you have no reason to believe me.« Seola had followed him and was now standing in the doorway. Admittedly, he was believing her way more than he had expected to. It would explain a lot about Taehyuns behavior.
»Yes but as far as I can tell, you have no reason to lie to me either.«
If he really was a descendant of some old and mysterious royal family, then one of his parents must've been as well, right?
»My parents died not long after I was born.«
»I'm sorry...«
»It's okay. It's not like I got to know them.« Beomgyu had been passed around relatives on his father's side his entire life. Everybody had seemed to want to get rid of him after a few years. He wasn't a troublemaker by any means so he never understood it. As soon as he was able to live on his own, he immediately moved out. Even if that meant living in a tiny ass apartment.
»But it would explain why I'm only hearing about this now – assuming it's true.« He turned to face Seola. »How do you know that it's me?«
»Most people here can sense a certain difference between regular humans and magical ones. But Taehyuns senses have always been especially refined so he's able to not only figure out that someone has magic powers but also of what kind they are.«
Beomgyu nodded slightly. He hated how much sense this made to him but he couldn't stop himself from asking all his questions now that he had somewhat calmed his head down.
»Wait, now that you mention him, what's the deal with Taehyun? And I still don't even know who Yeonjun is! I've heard his name so many times now and I'm starting to believe he just doesn't exist.« Technically, he also didn't really know who Soobin was but at least he had seen him before.
»Taehyun...« Seola sighed. »You should hear that from himself. It's complicated. And Yeonjun is the crown prince of our neigboring kingdom Logon... who recently declared war against us. He's also...« She cut herself off. »I will tell you the rest some other time. It's late and I'm sure you have a lot to process.«
»So Yeonjun's the enemy? But isn't Taehyun friends with him?...« Beomgyu brushed a few strands of hair out of his face. Wait. »WAR?«
»So far nothing major has happened«, Seola answered calmly. »Everyone is tense currently because the fighting could start at any moment.« She looked down into the forest as she turned silent. Only then did Beomgyu notice her dark eye bags.
After a few minutes of standing in silence, Seola picked up the conversation: »So, what will you do?« She looked at him again. »Personally, I would like to keep you here with us and have you join Kai's training. The decision is up to you though.«
Beomgyu thought about it. He didn't feel like getting into anything dangerous and this didn't sound safe to be honest. But he still had questions. Many questions. He already couldn't sleep properly and this was sure to keep him awake even more.
»What would happen if I go back home?«, he ended up asking.
»Logon has been looking for you ever since rumors of your birth started floating around. If you go back now, I can't guarantee that you'd be safe for very long.« Ugh.
»I– uhm.. can I stay here for a while and then decide?« Somehow, it felt right to stay there. Beomgyu wasn't sure why but his intuition kept telling him so. But he also considered himself to be a somewhat rational person, so he wanted more information before making his final desicion.
Seola nodded. »That's fine, too.«
Out of nowhere, a bright light blinded Beomgyu while Seola just rubbed her temples. »Kai, I haven't called for you yet.« As she said that, the light vanished and a distressed Kai appeared in front of them. Beomgyu blinked a few times – partially because he was seeing spots now and partially because he still wasn't used to magic.
»I– I know but it just got reported that an outsider has entered the forest and uhm... it seems like they came from Logon.«
WHAT??
»One singular person you say?« Seola stayed calm again. Beomgyu wondered just how she did that.
Kai nodded. »Since they somehow made it past our guards, it can't be a regular citizen.. How should we proceed?«
The queen seemed to contemplate for a while before nodding to herself. »I'll go myself. Tell everyone to be on guard but to not interfere.«
Seola went into her study again and returned with a bottle that was filled with some lime-green liquid. She was also carrying a light leather bag in which she stored the bottle.
»And show Beomgyu to his room while I'm gone.«
»Wait«, he said without thinking. »Can I come with you?« He screamed at himself internally. Sometimes he hated how curious he could be.
Seolas stare burned itself into Beomgyus eyes as she thought it over.
»Okay«, she said finally. »With me around it won't be too dangerous... so I guess you could consider this your first lesson then.«
Beomgyu had expected more preparation but apparently that one bottle and a lamp was all Seola needed. Well, it was just one person after all. He wasn't sure why she as the literal queen would deal with this herself in the first place.
Seola had also informed him that it was actually 3AM... Seemed like he had reallyyy needed some sleep earlier.
»So uhm... this wasn't the palace right?« They had just left the little forest village via weird-teleportation-that-beomgyu-didn't-understand and were now walking through the forest in silence.
»No, we're nowhere near the capital either. This forest lies directly at the border to Logon. It's also the least likely place for them to make a move, which is why we brought you here for now.«
Beomgyu raised an eyebrow. »Why?« If this place was on the border, it would usually be dangerous no matter the location, right?
»That is why.« She pointed towards a giant purple mushroom. Beomgyu had seen a lot of those already and they hadn't walked far. »If you go too close to them they'll emit poisonous spores that result in an almost instant death. Since they're all over the place, it's near impossible to send a lot of your soldiers here without activating at least one.«
He nodded and made a mental note to stay far away from any weird unknown organism that he would see from now on.
Suddenly, Seola stopped walking and signalled Beomgyu to stay still. »They're close.« His heart started beating faster.
He gulped as he heard rustling behind a tree. Seola didn't move so he did the same. Shortly after, a head covered in black hair appeared from behind the tree. Beomgyu immediately felt his heart sink into his stomach.
Huh? But that's... »You're that guy from the mall.«
A/N It's been a while since I updated;;;; But hey they finally meet (again) lol
