You want to start writing, so ahy not start with my study abou OC's out there? (OC - original character)
There is so much repeated OC's out there– it does not mean you can not write OC with same characteristics. It is meant only for those who wants to escape from stereotype.
My study was from other site (Fanfiction . net). It does not have to be accurate for wattpad, so do not be surpise.
1. The main Character and family
99% - are women. I did not read any Divergent fanfiction with male lead, so 1% from before is only for mistake I could have done.
75% - are from broken families. Their family died and he/she saw it happened (or not). They usually are later placed with abusive relative, or if they are from Amity (and sometimes even from somewhere else) with the leader of the faction. Only 23% are from normal and ordinary families. 2% is not known – story usually starts after placement in new faction, and so on.
2. The faction of the main character before placement
64% - is from Amity.
10% - Erudite.
10% - Abnegation.
10% - Candor.
5% - Dauntless.
1% - Factionless.
3. Love interest of the main character
90% - Eric.
7% - Uriah.
1% - Tobias/Four.
1% - another OC.
1% - none.
4. The Story
99% of OC's want to be Dauntless because they don't feel good in their faction. Maybe 50% from them are divergent and want to know how to fight. Maybe 50% from them wants to escape their abusive home. In the end they all want to be Dauntless. They secretly train before initiation or watched Dauntless born kids from far away and wanted to be one of them.
Later in the initiative, they usually jump first and later in training Eric helps them and OC falls in love with him. Help will come from love interest and some other girls would want to steal their love interest. And why not to make harem? 40% of characters has at least two love interests fighting for their love. She is special, so why not? Bleh.
40% stories is the same year as Tris, 20%between Tobias and Tris (if you follow books, because in films there is 6 yearsdifference and in books only two years.), 18% same year as Tobias and Eric. 2%after war or attack on Abnegation.
