Finally you felt relaxed until there was voices echoing from where you first entered.

"Fuck." You whispered, quietly shuffling to where you entered from. Peeking out from the sides, there was the three treasure hoarders that were awake. All of them had grabbed their weapons and were getting ready for battle.

"Someone woke up Azhdaha! Get your weapons ready boys!" The men all shouted in unison. There was no way to get out of here safely, so you took your chances. Maybe just explaining what happened might make them understand.

You emerged from the shadows, tears pouring down your face. "I'm really sorry." You cried, coming out with your hands held high. "I-I didn't mean to." The three men looked at you with bloodthirsty eyes. "Please." You whispered. "Let me live, I fell down here on accident and hurt my ankle. I promise I won't tell anyone that you're down here."

"Hey, isn't that the girl who was in your tent!" Yelled one.

"Yeah! I bet she stole our stuff!" Yelled another one.

Before they could do anything else, you made a run for it. The one man who you just assumed was the leader yelled at the other two to grab you. Since you had the twisted ankle, you didn't make it very far.

The two men on the side grabbed both of your arms to keep you from running. "Let me go!" You yelled to whomever would hear you. "Help me! Someone please help!" You screamed some more.

"Get this bitch to shut up!" The one on the right of you yelled, the grip on your tightening more. "Her screams are so annoying."

"Oh, I'll make her shut up." A sly smirk made it's way to the mans face as he pulled out a sword. "By slicing her throat." Panic finally set in which made you start kicking and screaming in the mans grip. You did anything physically possible to get them to let go but no avail, you were trapped.

"Help!" You screamed once more, but your energy was running out. There was only so much more that you could do.

Just as you thought it was the end, a spear came flying through the air, slicing the man on the right's arm.  The one with the cut arm let go of you due to the pain. "What the hell!" He said, blood seeping through his clothing.

"I'm down here!" You yelled once more. you lifted your foot and slammed it down on the foot of the man on the left. He screamed out in pain, letting go of your arm as well.

Finally, you were out of the men's grip. You didn't know who might of helped you, but who ever they were was your hero.

"Y/N!?" Zhongli? You limped up the hill to see the silhouette of the Archon. "Y/N!" He yelled, running down the hill. A panicked expression was on his face. "Behind you!" Before you noticed, the leaded had grabbed your bad leg and pulled you back into the cave. You screamed out in horror and agony, the pain shooting up your limp. You clawed at the ground to try to get some leverage, but all that was left was marks from digging your fingers into the dirt. Zhongli was screaming behind you, his voice not far behind. The Archon was here to rescue you, you were saved. There would be nothing to worry about.

The leader slammed your body against the wall, it seemed like the other two had ran away and left him to fend for himself. "You aren't getting out of this." He seethed, a evil grimace on his face. "You're savior won't be able to save you from this." His large hand slammed against your neck to keep you still as his other one grabbed the sword. "Say bye bye." You screamed out in horror as the sword plunged into your stomach.

A searing hot pain made it's way to your torso as you wailed out in pain. You never noticed Zhongli standing at the doorway, watching the scene in front of him unfold. The only thing that you saw before clenching your eyes shut was another spear flying through the air, cutting the mans head clean off. All you heard the blood spray against the cave walls and a small thump of a head hitting the ground.

The horrified yell of Zhongli will forever haunt you, but you were too focused on the pain coming from your stomach. "Hey Zhongli." You weakly said, a soft smile on your face. The archon didn't say anything as he lifted you up and set you against a slanted rock. Shaky hands caressed your face.

"Y/N." He said softly. You finally opened your eyes to take a better look at him. "You're bleeding out really bad." Zhongli's face adorned tears that looked like crystals. Even when you're bleeding out all you could think about is how beautiful he is. "Y/N, you need to focus." You could feel yourself slip in and out of consciousness.

"Zhongli." You breath, feeling the blood seeping out from the wound and onto the dirt floor. At this rate, you knew that you were going to die. There was no denying it now. "I have to tell you something." The last thing you wanted to do before you left existence was to let him know how you truly felt.

"Anything Y/N." He says, his hand applying pressure to the wound but nothing was stopping it. His hands were soaked in red.

"I never told you this, but loving you was the easiest thing I've done." You could feel the life slowly draining out of you. "it was me and you against the world." You coughed, blood spraying across your paling lips. You watched as more tears started to pour out of Zhongli's eyes, his lip quivering. "I guess the world just won."

"Don't say that Y/N. You're going to live. Please don't leave me, not again." He pleaded. "I can't do this another time."

"Ya know." Your breath was starting to get more shallow. "I knew you never actually loved me. My bed was always too small for two, but way too big for one." You looked at him, raising your hand weakly to his face. He put his hand on top of yours. You noticed a small light emitting from behind his head. How could a light be this bright in a cave? "I'm scared Zhongli." You met his eyes. "I don't want to die."

"You won't." He was lying.

"I love you Zhongli." You said before taking your last breath, slipping into the void.

You never got to hear his cries of agony. You never got to see him shaking your body until he knew for sure that there was no life left in you. He had let out the most inhuman yell he could muster.

Zhongli weeped over your body, kissing you on your forehead while whispering a small 'I love you'. Something that you would never hear.

You loved Zhongli, but never got to know if he loved you back.

Maybe in the next life you will.

I hope everyone enjoyed the story! This was my first 'angst' that I've written so I hope that everyone was happy with it! I normally hate when the reader dies in the end but the plot line was too good to let go.

There will be a future Zhongli x reader book that will have a happy ending, so I would hope that all of you would enjoy that as well.

Again, a song actually inspired the end of this book and the lyrics were actually used in the death scene, if anyone wanted to listen go on ahead! The song is:

never is an awfully long time - Savage Ga$p

I hope everyone enjoyed :) See you in the next book!
