In the Outer Rim.
3 standard years after the foundation of the Galactic Empire.
"Perfect."
The girl pushed her stubborn curly hair out of her sweaty face and put the wrench on her chaotic desk, where plans and drawings were scattered around. It was utter chaos for everyone else, but the girl knew exactly where everything was.
Her small fingers were smeared with dark machine oil, but she could care less about it. The girl actually liked the smell of the oil, it calmed her mind and also was a great nasal stimulation.
A small, yellowish lamp lightened up the corner of the room she sat in.
She had worked on a small droid that had been common on the planet Kamino - a surgical assistant droid. It was in a very good shape, besides the fact that it didn't turn on.
The droid had a oval head with big eyes and a round body with small arms. Instead of legs it had two repulsorlifts for flying.
She'd always wished for a droid companion.
"Everyone dropped you in the bin, but I promise to you that I'll get you back to life." Her voice was filled with self-confidence as she spoke to the dead machine in front of her.
She had given him new shiny eyes and currently did repairs on the flying drives. It should be able to fly now.
But there was a problem: the girl desperately needed a battery or energy cell to get him working. The old one wasn't able to be fixed.
Her gaze fell by accident on the small chrono on the desk.
"Oh, kriff-!"
"Cassiopeia!", shouted a woman's voice behind her.
The girl winced and closed her eyes.
She had known that she'd get in trouble.
'Why do I always get so lost in time?'
"Mum-" she began to explain but her mother didn't let her finish.
"This is the fourth night in a row that I caught you working on your droid!" Her mother said with disappointment in her voice and sighed sadly.
Cassiopeia's shoulders dropped defeated as she turned around to face her mother.
"I'm just worried about you, ad'ika."
She was just a three year old.
The mother placed her hands carefully on her daughter's shoulders and began to sing a calming song.
Warmth began to flow through Cassiopeia's body as she felt tiredness washing over her like ocean waves.
"No, mum, please-" but the little girl was already asleep before the had finished her plea.
Eveline Tachi took daughter in her arms and carried her to a small hammock, that was a temporary sleeping solution.
She took a grey wool blanket and put it over her daughter, tucking her in so she wouldn't feel cold.
She didn't like using the Force to get her daughter to sleep, but Eveline knew that Cassiopeia would've stayed up all night repairing her medical droid.
Eveline was proud of her daughter's investment in repairing things, but sometimes she'd wish for her to be just a normal child.
But these weren't even normal times they were living in.
