Xiao barely manages to say anything to the blonde that was in front of him.
He could not take his eyes off him, he just could not.

. . .

Aether was lying down on his bed, Paimon sleeping in the room next to him.
He had a feeling that there was someone else present in the room, he just didn't seem to know who it was.
"I know you're there, come on out," Aether calls out, addressing the mysterious person in the shadows.
To his surprise, it was a lady with blue hair, he could assume that she was half Human half Qilin.

"I'm sorry for the sudden appearance, Traveler..." the Qilin lady says shyly, her face hidden by the shadows.
Aether had learnt this the hard way - never trust a stranger.
He immediately cast his sword, and held it at the neck of the Qilin.
"Tell me, Qilin, why is it that you are here? Spying on me?" Aether questions, as he pins the lady to the wall.
"My name is Ganyu- and I was ordered to watch over you by Alatus-!" Ganyu quickly says, feeling the cool steel of a sharp blade press onto her skin.

"Alatus... Who is that?" Aether questions again, releasing his grip on Ganyu as he casts away his sword.
"I'm afraid I'm not allowed to say the identity of Alatus..." Ganyu only responds, the moonlight glowing on her face.
"I see... Hold on... Aren't you a part of the Qixing?"
"Haha... Maybe..?"
"You are, I see..."
"I was supposed to tell you this later on... but Lady Ningguang requests your presence at the Jade Chamber two days from now at sunset..."
"Really, so you were her to spy on me and send me a message from this Lady Ningguang? Like I'm going to trust you."

Aether draws his sword again, only for Ganyu to have disappeared into the moonlight.
"Ugh..." Aether groans, as he held his head, dropping his sword onto the ground.
First, he met the Conqueror of Demons, then met a lady called Ganyu... What's next?
He certainly was noticing a pattern here, and it was annoying him a lot.
He decided to not worry about that now at midnight, and instead he was going to go to bed.
He really needed to clear his mind.
Aether lies down on his bed again, slowly drifting off to a peaceful slumber.

. . .

Xiao was watching over Aether.
He swore to watch over the boy day and night, whether he knew it or not.
He sighed contentedly, watching through the window of the room.
He envied how easily Aether could sleep, how easy it was for him to wake up not having to feel karmic debt.

Of course, Aether most likely had his problems too...
But there was something about the blonde that piqued the raven's interest.
The Traveler didn't wield any sort of vision, yet showed no signs of being affected by Xiao's karma, and he could possess the elements of Geo and Anemo at his will.
Xiao sat there at the window sill, trying to come up with some answer as to how the blonde could be like this.
Until, he finally realised.
The blonde was not from Teyvat, and he was immortal (I think Aether is immortal, idk why), meaning that his karma would have no negative toll on him.

Xiao only huffs quietly to himself, getting angry as he teleports away.
He needed some time to breathe.
First of all, why was he thinking of the blonde, and only the blonde?
He cannot just make connections with someone he barely knew.
It would be unfair on the other, especially since that other is new to the Language and Concept of Teyvat.

He stands on the edge of the balcony, his eyes closed.
Whatever it was that was bothering him, he needed to get rid of a soon as he could.
After all, it wouldn't be positive.
Or so, Alatus thought.
