Vance Hopper. He was known for not feeling anything, beating up kids for the most random reasons. But not to Bruce. That's what confused Vance most. Bruce was so focused on Vance, he didn't get the time to actually know him. At least not his reputation.
•Bruce arrived five minutes early, figuring that would be decent timing, yet Vance wasn't even there. He waited another minute before he saw Vance running towards him.
"Great timing," Bruce said sarcastically. Vance slowed down when hewas closer to Bruce. "Sorry, I thought it eleven still," Vance explained.
"Wow. Alright, so where you taking me?" Bruce questioned. Vance smirked and began walking in the other direction.
Bruce watched him for a moment before he ran to catch up with him. "Good to know," Bruce huffed.
"Mhm. It's just a place I like to go," Vance shrugged, glancing down at Bruce. He already seemed quite happy. Maybe the bet wouldn't be so bad after all. At least for Vance.
"You look nice today," Vance spoke, looking forward again.
Bruce's eyes widened. He looked over at Vance without moving his head. "Uh, what?" He said astounded.
Vance laughed slightly. "So where did you move from?" He asked, completely ignoring Bruce.
"Phoenix, Arizona," Bruce told him.
"Arizona? You seemed more of a Florida person," Vance said, turning a corner and tugging Bruce's shirt to assure he was going the correct way.
"Oh yeah? How so?" Bruce asked.
"Hm. I don't know, most people I've met from Arizona are complete bitches. You're cool though," Vance explained. Bruce looked at him, still confused.
"Okay?" He responded with. "Yeah, now come here," Vance said, turning down into an alley.
"Boy, what a spot," Bruce rolled his eyes, refusing to move.
"No, it's not here, it just leads there," Vance said with a sigh. Bruce reluctantly followed him, unsure of his surroundings.
"I don't like this," Bruce said, glared at the rats scurrying across the ground.
"Your fine. Climb up here after me," Vance said, grabbing hold of a ladder and hoisting himself up. He began climbing it to the top, Bruce watching as he did.
"You coming?" Vance shouted down from the top. Bruce looked down to the ladder and shook his head before climbing up.
Vance took Bruce's hand and helped him onto the roof. Bruce stood up and looked around. It wasn't too tall, but it was tall enough to see the entire street and a bit beyond.
"Woah," is all Bruce made out. Vance hummed.
"You bring everyone here?" Bruce asked, finally turning to look at Vance.
"No. I mean, Aaron, yeah. No one else," Vance told him, walking over to the ledge and standing over it.
Bruce watched as he dangled one foot over the edge. Vance didn't seem to care how dangerous it was.
"Hey, be careful. A fall like this could really hurt," Bruce informed him. Vance planted his foot back on the ground and walked away from the ledge.
"I was fine. I've never fallen," Vance shrugged. That was a lie. He has fallen off once after loosing his balance, but he didn't break any bones so he was fine.
"So? There's a first for everything. Can we go back down? You're scaring me up here," Bruce admitted.
"Yeah, alright," Vance nodded and walked back to the ladder, stopping when he saw the store owner walking down the alley. He looked up and spotted Vance.
"Vance! How many times have I told you to stay away from here?! I'm gettin' you this time," He said angrily and began climbing up the
"Shit. Bruce, do you trust me?" Vance frantically asked, speed-walking back to Bruce.
"Yeah, I do. Why?" Bruce said, sounding scared.
"Good," Vance said, walking Bruce to the edge, then lightly pushing him off. "Holy- Vance!" Bruce screamed.
Bruce calmed down as he hit a stack of mattresses. "Oh. That didn't hurt. But what the hell was that for?"
"Move out the way!" Vance shouted down to him. He looked back to see the owner stepping onto the roof.
He looked back to the mattresses, to see Bruce standing next to it, arms crossed. Vance jumped down and hopped off the mattresses.
"Come on," Vance said, taking his hand and running down the road.
"Care to explain what the hell that was all about?" Bruce said, taking his hand back, still running next to him.
"I'm not really wanted there. Owner tries keeping me away, never caught me though," Vance said, holding back a laugh.
"Jeez, did I have to be pushed of a roof?" Bruce rolled his eyes.
"Yeah. I don't want to find out what he's going to do when he gets a hold of me," Vance said, finally letting out a small laugh.
"Why's he hate you so much?" Bruce asked.
"Uh, probably just because I hang around here all the time. I mean, some random kid hanging around his roof, it's bound to get weird," Vance excused.
It's not like he could tell Bruce it's because that's where his knife fight happened. He was fighting a kid in the store, when he pulled out a knife, Vance did too and accidentally stabbed his leg. He was sent to the police station, and the owner hasn't been too fond of him since.
"Oh. Makes sense I guess. Can we stop running now?" Bruce said. Vance slowed down and Bruce did too.
"That was surely an experience," Bruce noted, still trying to catch his breath.
Vance hummed in reply and pulled out his phone. "I should get going. I'll see you at school, Bruce," Vance smiled.
"Alright, bye!" Bruce waved and watch as Vance walked off. Bruce turned around, realizing he had no clue where he now was.
Bruce walked back the way they came from, eventually finding the grab n go, where he knew his way back.
•***•
Bruce pushed open his front door, seeing Amy in the living room watching some show. She looked up when she heard the door opening and paused the show.
"Hi!" Amy said brightly.
"Hi," Bruce mumbled, throwing his shoes to the side and walking to his stairs.
"Um? You're welcome?" Bruce heard Amy say. He backed up and looked into the room.
"Why would I be thanking you?" Bruce asked, crossing his arms.
"I think you forgot who got you that hangout with Vance," Amy said, standing up.
"I could've done that myself. I don't need you meddling with my life," Bruce scoffed, wandering back up the stairs, ignoring Amy.
Amy shook her head towards her brother. He wouldn't have been able to do it as quickly as she did.
