...
Miles pursed his lips as he listened on, his ears laid flat to his head, the rigid line of his jaw flexing as something unreadable passed behind his eyes.
He heard you thrash and fight, his name leaving your lips in angry cries that scraped at his nerves like claws.
Still, he didn't move - his hands twitching at his sides to reach out for you, fingers curling into fists instead as if he were physically restraining himself from giving in.
He reminded himself that you both needed this - it was a harsh but necessary wake up call.
You weren't his to keep.
The metal beneath his boots vibrated faintly with the movement of the ship, the ocean churning below like a living, breathing thing.
Once he was sure you were strapped to the railing, your shouts having quietened down to weak protests, he looked at where you had been previously stood. Lyle, for once looked unsure of himself, his sheepish eyes stuck on where you were tied up, shoulders drawn in tight like a reprimanded child.
Miles gritted his teeth, fangs grazing his bottom lip at his second in command - an ugly feeling of betrayal bubbling up in his chest, hot and bitter.
He'd deal with him later.
Pushing himself to stand closer to the railing, he kept his eyes trained over you and on the real enemy.
He ignored the way your death stare putting him on edge as he surveyed the currents in the water, searching for any sign of movement.
You could feel the blazing heat of anger pumping through your veins, your nails digging subconsciously into your palms as you eyed Miles, lips set into a deep scowl that made your cheeks ache.
He was stood stiff just out of reach away from you, face pointed up and away as his shoulders held obvious tension, muscles coiled beneath blue skin like he was bracing for a blow he refused to dodge.
'You are a coward.' You spoke lowly, the words leaving your lips slow as venom dripped from your voice, each syllable sharp and meant to wound.
Deliberate.
He had betrayed you, after everything you had given to him.
Every look..
Every touch..
Every moment you had let your guard down.
You wanted to cut away your restraints and tear him limb from limb - force him to look at you, feel the anger behind each of your attacks until his very soul trembled from your wrath.
But you knew you couldn't.
Your hands would seize the moment they'd even graze his throat.
Breathing out, chest shaking as the air left, you opted to instead look out at the ocean, the floor below you wet and cold - goosebumps raising along your legs as wind kissed your damp skin.
Your eyes narrowed in confusion as you saw a herd of tsurak emerge from behind a large rock, their wings flapping as they hovered just above the water, powerful tails carrying them through the water effortlessly.
You couldn't see the faces of their riders but your heart filled with anxiety regardless, ears lowering as the pit in your stomach returned, heavy and sickening.
'Na'vi inbound! Spread out, weapons up!'
You recoiled at the soldier's shouts from behind, tail lashing from side to side along the ribbed ship flooring with sharp, agitated movements.
