...

You truly had no idea how you had ended up here.

The night air was thick with smoke and salt, clinging to your lungs every time you breathed in, the ocean wind doing nothing to clear the suffocating weight pressing down on your chest.

One moment you were in your own world waiting patiently, next the entire ship was almost flipped and then Spider was at the door banging for your attention.

The memory of it made your head spin.

You still weren't sure how he had even managed to open it.

And you still weren't sure as to why you were tucked, crouched and partly hidden behind said boy's smaller fame as a grieving mother cried out at the loss of her son.

Her cries sounded too raw. Too real.

They had vibrated through your bones, settling somewhere deep and heavy in your stomach, goosebumps raising along your skin.

Your brain still hadn't caught up to everything, your body just moving through the motions as you stared out at the dark ocean around you, eyes unfocused.

The waves reflected firelight in trembling streaks of orange and red, the wreckage behind you crackling and groaning like a dying beast.

You didn't move until you felt Spider stand up in front of you, your body shifting as your eyes snapped to him in curiosity. He spoke quietly to the much taller blue man with dreads in front of him, your ears straining.

You could briefly recognise him as the man on Miles' device, Jake.

The resemblance struck you like a jolt. The yellowed eyes, the same hard lines carved into his expression - he looked like the shell of the man you had seen.

You watched as Spider reached out and grasped his much larger arm, urging him to the water edge.

'I'll show you.' You heard the small boy speak impatiently, breathing mask loud as he huffed out - trying to make the blue man understand him.

Once Jake finally nodded in understanding, he backed away to comfort the crying woman a bit ahead of you.

You watched as he pulled her up onto unsteady feet, her body almost crumbling once again until he caught her. The tenderness in the movement caught you off guard, large hands holding steady like she might fall apart at any second.

'What's going on?' You questioned quietly, turning to Spider as your fingers fiddled with each other, unsure of what to do with yourself.

'Quaritch has his daughters, he's going to kill them if we just stay here and do nothing.' The boy explained quickly and you shook your head just as quick, back straightening in defence.

Your heart slammed hard against your ribs.

'He wouldn't-'

'Spider.'

You were cut silent as the other man returned, his intimidating expression zipping your lips immediately.
