...
Miles watched his chest rise and fall, the gentle weight of your head moving along with the steady motion.
Your cheek was pressed to his bare blue skin, warmth seeping between you, lips faintly pouted while your lashes brushed your cheekbones with each soft breath.
Sunlight spilled through the room, catching on metal and glass, bouncing along the walls until it settled on you. It painted your skin a glowing rich sea-blue, your stripes hypnotising and skin luminous enough to hold him completely still.
His hooded eyes, lazy from sleep, never once left you, gaze tracing the quiet lines of your face as if committing them to his memory.
Somehow, during the night, you had ended up half on top of him.
Your body was curled into his side like a cat, your upper half resting fully against his chest, close enough that he could feel every subtle shift of you.
Your tail laid warm and heavy along his thigh, relaxed and unguarded as you kept his leg grounded to the bed. The sight tugged at something deep and instinctive inside him.
He had absolutely no complaints.
His arm closest to you moved on its own, calloused fingers brushing the base of your tail near your lower back, your spine twitching.
The touch was slow, almost reverent, each stroke drifting a little higher before retreating again just to see you twitch.
A soothing motion. A claiming one, even if he refused to name it as such.
You were yet to fully wake up, the clutches of sleep still persist yet you still reacted to him - the fainted twitch of your nose giving yoy away, ears flicking once before settling again.
The sight had him fighting the smile that tugged at his lips, his eyes shifting between your face and where his hand traced idle patterns against your skin.
He wasn't sure what he was supposed to feel.
Had he of known you would have this kind of impact - enough to cloud his judgment, enough to bleed into his mission..the very reason he was brought back in this blue body in the first place, would he have left you where he found you?
He wouldn't have to live with the hollow ache that settled in his chest at the thought of never seeing you again.
Never having your eyes lift to his - sharp and so goddamn bratty - cutting deep enough that his very soul was laid bare beneath your stare.
You were everywhere.
In his chest, in his thoughts. His instincts curled tightly around you whether he wanted them to or not.
The weight of it dragged a heavy sigh from deep in his chest, the warm breath brushing over your skin and causing goosebumps to raise in his wake.
A loud, insistent knock cut through the quiet.
Miles' ears snapped upright instantly.
His hand curled without thought, gripping your tail and pulling you closer, his body shifting closer around yours in a protective arc.
Impossibly close.
'Boss?'
He nearly rolled his eyes at the muffled voice through the door, tension easing just slightly when no immediate threat followed.
Still, he didn't answer. Instead, his gaze dropped back to you, softening despite himself.
As much as he wanted to wake you with his lips, to feel you stir beneath him as he kissed you back to him and bask in the heat between your thighs, he knew better.
