CHAPTER 7
SELENE'S POV
As I waited for Doc Gavin to come out, Czairex's handsome face and his words came into my mind.
I didn't make a mistake in approaching him and asking for help because after a few days, he was able to find a heart donor through whoever he talked to. He also assured me that the heart to be transplanted was healthy.
But until the operation is over, I don't want to be complacent. I want to make sure that my Tita will be okay after the surgery. I don't want to lose her. The same goes for my Uncle.
As the doctor said, Tito suffered from temporary memory loss, but after twenty-four hours, his memories returned to normal. He's still in a private room, and the doctor visits him from time to time to check on his condition, but he's doing well. He just needs to rest to fully recover.
Tito knew about the operation and asked if he could come with me, but I refused and said he needed to rest. I told him I'd bring him to Tita once the operation was over. I saw how worried he was for his wife. I could tell through his eyes that he felt guilty and blamed himself for what happened. But I didn't blame him. It wasn't his fault. It was an accident.
"Selene!"
"Anong ginagawa mo rito?"
She rolled her eyes and sat beside me. "I'm here to support you, of course. I'm your best friend, and even if you didn't want to tell me, I know you wanted someone to stay with you. So I'm here for you."
I looked away. "You didn't have to."
"Yes, I need to," she said firmly. "You're my best friend, Selene. I know this is hard for you, fighting alone for Tita Janice and Tito Hernando. I don't want you to feel like you're all alone, so just let me accompany my best friend. And that's you."
"Doc. Kumusta si Tita? Successful ba?"
After a few seconds, Doc Gavin smiled and said, "The operation was successful." I breathed a sigh of relief. It felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. "But we still need to monitor her and make sure that the heart is healthy. She'll be transferred to the ICU for the time being, and then to a private room once she wakes up."
