I don't own anyone except Cara. Everyone else belongs to the wonderful and creative J.K. Rowling.
"Don't look now. James is staring at you again," whispered my best friend, Lily Evans. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
"Just ignore him like I do. He'll eventually go away." I stated.
"Ok then. So, do you have a date to the Yule Ball yet?" Lily asked. I shook my head.
"No. I've been asked a few times but I turned them all down. I'm waiting for someone to take it a little farther then just asking me as we pass in the hallways. You know?" She nodded. We sat there in silence as I waited for her to tell me if she was going with anyone.
"Well? Do you have a date yet?" I finally asked. She jumped.
"Oh! Yeah I do. You know that really cute Ravenclaw a year older then us? Augustus Green? He asked me yesterday with roses and flowers and I couldn't turn him down so I said yes."
I smiled and was about to respond when the entire hall went quiet. We looked up to see Sirius heading towards our friend Marlene. She kept talking with Alice and just ignored Sirius, no matter how many times he called her name. Finally, he pushed a first year out of their chair and used it to climb up on the table in front of Marlene.
"Marlene McKinnon! Would you do me the great honor of being my date to this year's Yule Ball?" he asked.
Marlene started whispering with Alice before standing up on the table as well.
"Yes."
Sirius started jumping up and down before picking up Marlene and swinging her around, kissing her. The entire hall except Slytherin began cheering and whooping before Professor Dumbledore quieted them down. I turned to Lily.
"See Lily? If a guy did something like that, I would automatically do that, unless it's someone like Peter. Then I'd say no."
"What about James?" I looked down the table and saw him smiling and laughing with Remus and Sirius. He looked at me and as we stared at each other the noise in the Great Hall silenced to a quiet buzz at the back of my head. I began to blush when I realized I had been staring a bit too long. I turned back to my best friend.
"I would say yes. I think I'm finally going to give him a chance." I looked back at James to see him already staring. I gave him a small smile and saw him blush before he stood up and walked to the empty seat next to Lily.
"Hello James. How are you?" Lily politely asked.
"I am doing well Lily. And you?"
"Wonderful. I'll leave you two alone." She winked at me and went to sit with Marlene and Alice.
"Hey Cara. So, do you have a date yet?" I gave him a small smile.
"No not yet. And you?"
"Naw. I mean, a couple girls asked me but I said no." I nodded and was about to ask if he wanted to go with me but he interrupted me.
"So...um... Cara, did you...? I mean... um..." He kept rambling for a few minutes and I rolled my eyes before grabbing his tie and pulling him towards me, kissing him right on the lips. I heard Sirius yelling something like "Go Prongs! Yeah get some buddy!" but I just ignored him and kept kissing James. I pulled away and sat back down, letting James stand there like an idiot. He began turning red and I laughed.
"So James, pick me up at 7, yeah?" I said, amused. He nodded.
"Umm, yeah. 7. I'll pick you up at 7," he mumbled, dazed. I smiled and stood up, leaving the Great Hall. Right as the doors closed behind me, I heard a loud whoop and James yelling.
"YEAH! CARA O'CONNOR IS GOING WITH ME TO THE BALL! WHOOO-HOOO!!!"
