No one's POV
"What am I doing?" "No, I can't be having feelings for her." Enid sobs nonstop while wiping her tears away aggressively using her sleeves.
She didn't want these feelings to grow simply because she's still afraid of her own mother: "What if she disowns me when she finds out?" Enid thought to herself.
Just as Enid's about to get up a hand from behind and gently touch her shoulder, it makes her jump a bit.
"Hey, oops, sorry that I shocked you." Enid feels relieved seeing it's Ajax and not some strangers.
"It's fine. What are you doing here though?" Enid sniffs, then stares at Ajax—bad timing, to be honest.
"Oh yeah, I was just taking some fresh air here, my roommates making a mess in our dorm," Ajax shrugs, then takes a seat beside Enid.
"Oh, okay," Enid takes a deep breath then fumbles with her fingers, "it's peaceful here, right?" She watches the snow slowly falling into the ground.
"Sorta, it's more peaceful when the lake is not an iced floor all over." Ajax put one of his hands on the table and stared into Enid's eyes.
"Your eyes, crying?" His voice sounds concerned.
"Yeah, some stuff came up," Enid sighed, then added, "I'm okay now though." She smiles at him, reassuring him that everything is okay, when all she really wants is for Ajax to be gone for a moment so she can cry more because it really hurts deep down.
"Oh, okay, that's good to know, but hey, if you need anything, I'm right here." Ajax held Enid's hands gently while stroking them with his thumbs.
Enid's pov
I shouldn't be thinking about Wednesday right now; Ajax is in front of me. Get yourself together, Enid.
"Oh, okay, that's good to know, but hey, if you need anything, I'm right here." Ajax held my hands gently while stroking them with his thumbs.
I hate that his gesture reminds me of Wednesday. I slowly pull my hands away and smile at him.
"Sure, you're nice," I said, he chuckles when I said that.
"I appreciate the sarcastic compliment," he says, making faces while raising his eyebrows.
"Shut up, I mean it." I giggle and then push his shoulder. I remember that he was the one who guided me when I got lost finding biology class on the first day.
"Ouchh, that hurts," Ajax said dramatically, touching his shoulder while scrunching his nose.
I rolled my eyes before letting out a small chuckle. I looked at his eyes again and noticed they softened.
He scooted closer to me while saying, "Your eyes are red." I raised my eyebrows and then exclaimed, "What do you expect the colour would be when people cry?"
"I don't know, maybe purple?" "Could it be adapting to our uniforms or something we wear, y'know?" He smiles at me.
"Delusional much?"
"Sometimes I do think about stuff happening around me like that; it helps distract from negative thoughts."
I nodded, right, not like I know what goes on people's minds all the time.
I noticed he was getting closer to me and then slowly putting his lips on mine. My body froze for a moment, then I quickly pushed him away from me.
"What the hell Ajax?" I get up from my seat and stare at him. What is he doing?
"I'm sorry, Enid—I thought we're having a moment there.." he frowned, his eyebrows looking up apologetically.
"No, we did not. Read the room, Ajax. I just finished having some mental breakdowns, then you think kissing me is the right way to comfort me?" I scoffed; I'm shocked and disappointed, to be honest.
