"Mike?," Calum asked into the speaker.
"Hey mate, what's up?," Michaels static voice answered, a yawn in his voice. Calum's eyes flicked up to the clock on the opposite wall.
6:32am.
"Mike, I'm sorry. Did I wake you up?," Calum asked softly, his voice hoarse.
"Mate what happened?," Michael asked, a slight edge of uncertainty to his voice. He heard ruffling on the other side and another quiet yawn.
"We're at the hospital because Luke was having extreme cramps," Calum said quietly.
"God, is he okay?," Michael asked anxiously, all sleepiness gone from his voice.
Calum swallowed.
"No," he whispered after a beat of silence."Cal?," Michael asked, alarmed.
"Uhm," Calums voice was shaking. His whole body was shaking. "He's in emergency surgery. I don't really know what's happening. His body started fighting itself trying to get rid of the baby. It rejected the pregnancy. I-" His voice broke.
"The baby didn't make it and now they're fighting for Luke's life.""Oh god," Michael whispered, "Shit, Cal. Fuck, I'll come to the hospital. Can I come or do you want to be alone?"
"Please come," Calum whimpered, "I don't know what to do. What if.."
"No. Luke will be okay. Cal, buddy, I'm on my way. I'll be there in fifteen minutes," he heard rummaging from the other end.
"Thanks mate," Calum mumbled.
"Where do I find you?," Michael asked.
"There's a waiting area in the Ob GYN wing," Calum said.
"Okay," Michael said, "See you in a minute."
Michael found Calum in an empty corridor, folded up and leaning against the wall. He had his face buried in his hands and looked so small.
"Hey," Michael quietly said when he was standing In Front of his best friend, "Cal?"
Calums head snapped up and teary eyes looked back at him.
"Mike," he mumbled shakily and pushed himself up to fall into his arms. Michael wrapped his arm around him tightly and held Calum for a long time.
"I'm so so sorry, Cal," Michael whispered.
Calum pulled up his nose and detangled himself from Michael.
He used the back of his hand to wipe at his eyes and let out a long breath."Wanna sit down? Tell me what happened?," Michael asked softly and Calum nodded.
They sat in the uncomfortable waiting area chairs and Calum pieced together everything that happened since Michael had left the previous evening.

"Calum?"
Calums head snapped up immediately. His eyes needed a second to adjust to the light in the hospital hallway but after a few seconds he saw Doctor Miller standing a few feet away.
Calum was on his feet immediately, Michael lingering a few steps behind."Luke just got out of surgery," Doctor Miller said slowly, "He was brought to the ICU until his fever is down to a less alarming temperature. But he is stable."
"Oh god," Calum couldn't help the tears choking up his voice and blurring his vision again, "Really?"
"Yes," Doctor Miller said softly, "I promise, Luke made it."
"Can I see him?," Calum sniffled.
"I'm afraid you can't," Doctor Miller said, "not until the fever is down. ICU is for family only. But trust me, I'll make sure he gets out before he wakes up. Waking up alone after what just happened would be the least thing we want. Talking about coping, how are you? We have counseling here, if you want to talk about anything."
Her eyes flicked over Calums shoulder to Michael.
