|Hailey's POV|

Oh, he's probably gonna say no, why did I bother. And what will I tell Zander? 'Oh, I decided to go get ice cream with the person who betrayed us and the one we avoid all the time? I hope you don't mind!' I worried, doubting that Jake would respond to my text. My eyes were dull in fear and I jumped a little when I heard the 'ding' of my phone. I quickly ran to my bead, stumbling over a few things on the floor, and picked up my phone. On the screen was a notification of a text from Jake. I clicked on it and read it through a couple times to let it sink into my mind.

He said yes. He still wants to be friends. I thought, relief and joy slowly flooding into my mind. My mind instantly went back to Jake, and how excited I was to see him again, as friends. I tried to force my mind to ice cream, and what flavor I would get, but I couldn't get images of Jake and me, having fun and hanging out out of my head. But then... something else came up. Images of Jake and me hugging, or him calling me 'Princess'. I blushed furiously, thankful that no one was there to tease me, especially Milly. I squeezed my eyes shut and shot them open, hearing Zander and Luke coming down the hallway. I quickly hid my phone behind my back as the couple opened the door.

"Hailey? Are you ok?" They asked simultaneously. I nodded, trying to keep a smile from appearing on my face. Zander's face twisted into a confused expression as he saw my hand behind my back.

"What's behind your back, Hailey?" He asked. I rubbed my arm and sighed, my face turning a slight shade of pink.

"Zander, please don't be mad." I warned him, unsure of his reaction. "I... texted Jake." Zander's face went white, and his eyes were wide.

"You- you texted Jake?" He asked, mortified. I slowly nodded and bowed my head. He whipped around and ran out the door, slamming it in the process.

"Wait, Zander!" Luke called. He turned back to me with a half angry-half sad expression. "Hailey, how could you! Jake betrayed us, including you, and now, you just texted him? No matter what you said to him, you knew that would hurt Zander!" He turned around, not waiting for my response. I put my head in my hands, guilty that I hadn't thought about how Zander and Luke would feel about my decision. And I felt even guiltier that I was excited to see Jake again.
