I was dragged outside by Husky, eager to go for a walk through the Mooresville streets. I made sure to lock the door though, before grabbing my penny-board from the front door and letting Husky pull me down the streets.
He ran to the very end of the block, and by that time was puffed. After all, I was using him like a chariot. I decided to turn left to go down to the park where he could chill and walk around and maybe play with other dogs. I let him off his leash to run around, and I went and sat down on a wooden, worn out bench that was at the edge of the park.
As I was watching Husky, I saw him go up to a middle-aged woman with what seemed to be her younger daughter, son and older son. The younger son, who seemed to look about my age, looked over to me quickly, then looked back at Husky, bending over to pat him. Husky then returned a big, sloppy lick on the boy's hand.
I quickly got up to run over to him and apologise, putting the leash on Husky again.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry.... He just doesn't know manners," I lightly laughed, having smiles returned by all family members.
"Oh no honey, it's fine! I think he just wanted to meet our dog, Randy!" The mother pointed to their Labrador.
"Oh. I didn't realise! If it's alright with you, Husky might want to keep playing with..... Randy." I looked down at my dog trying to move towards Randy. As I looked back up, I saw the two boys holding back their laughter, probably at my dog's name.
"That's fine. I'm Elizabeth by the way! I can watch over your dog if you'd like. I think Skylynn likes your dog anyways!" The mother laughed, pointing to the little girl who looked about 6. I let Husky off of his leash again, letting him run up to the Labrador.
I smiled to Elizabeth and Skylynn and the two boys who hadn't yet been introduced to me yet, then walking back to my seat.
After staring into space while Husky played, I felt my seat shake slightly. I quickly turned to see the reason for the unexpected vibration, soon to be met with piercing ice-blue eyes.
"Hi...." I said awkwardly, not knowing how to start conversations.
"Hi.... I'm Hayes. Your dog, Husky is it? Is really funny." He replied.
"Yeah, I'm sorry about what happened." I apologised. Husky is funny though.
"So.... where's your accent from?" He asked, referring to the accent that I had completely forgotten about.
"Australia. I'm Australian." I mentally face-palmed myself for being so awkward. If you say your accent is from Australia, it is PRETTY DAMN OBVIOUS you're Australian, Maddy.
"Oh, wow. I've always wanted to go there. It seems really nice. Will you ever go back?" He asked.
"Um... I don't know. There's nothing really to go back to, except my family. We kind of just wanted to start over, ya'know?" I didn't really want to go into my past with a stranger that I've already had an awkward conversation with. Not yet at least.
"So... um... do you live near here? As in... the park?" He asked.
"Yeah. I actually live just down the street.... literally. I think I'm in number 115." I said, pointing to the road I live on.
"NO WAY?! I live in 123! That's like...... 4 houses away!" He counted on his fingers, which was kind of funny to watch.
"Oh. Ok. Don't come stalking me or anything!" I laughed.
"Don't worry. I won't. So.... I um..... won't keep you any longer, but if you need anything, I mean I'm just down the road so just let me know okay?" He asked, getting up.
"Yeah, thanks. I'll see you around then?" I asked also getting up to go back to Husky, who was now laying down with..... Skylynn I think? Yeah.
"Yeah. Bye" He waved to me before tuning back to his family and walking off.
Wow
So I just made a new friend that lives 4 houses down from me after only being here for 2 weeks and haven't gone to school yet. Impressive...
