"So Maddy, tell me about yourself." Elizabeth said, stabbing her fork into her lamb. I felt all eyes on me, waiting for an answer. I was sitting in-between Hayes and Elizabeth, with Skylynn next to Hayes and Nash next to his mum.

"Um.... well, my actual name is Madeleine Stevens, but people just call me Maddy, and sometimes I let my friend, Clelia, call me "Mads". I'm 14, going on 15 next year. I live with my mum and my dog, and I love food." I said, trying to think about what I'd seem like to someone.

"Do you have any hobbies?" Nash asked, everyone continuing to eat their dinner.

"Yeah. Every night, I reserve time to go outside and look up at the stars. There's just something about them, like they're trying to tell me something, or that I need to do something, or maybe they have something in store for me. I really don't know. Oh, I love playing Basketball, Soccer and Touch!" I remembered. They all looked up at me with confused looks on their faces.

"Touch football. You know, rugby?" I said, trying to soothe their confused looks, except for Skylynn; she's too busy demolishing her food.

"Oh, yeah. So, do you like music?" Nash asked. I was trying to find an answer for the question, until I saw Hayes, staring at me, with a look of shock, wonder, relief, happiness and curiosity. I wonder why?

"Yeah. I like some chilled-out stuff, but usually just listen to pop-trap-rock. It's complicated." I laughed nervously. Every time I have to explain my style of music, I feel like the other person is judging me. It's uncomfortable.

We all continued to finish our dinner, talking about my dog, music and my hobbies. We were all finished with our meals, and waited at the table for dessert, which Elizabeth was preparing.

"So are you going to look at the stars again tonight?" Hayes asked curiously.

"Of course! There's a forecast of a meteor shower tonight. Would you like to come watch?" I asked, now looking between Nash and Hayes. Skylynn was in the kitchen, helping her mum with dessert.

"I have to go meet with someone, sorry. I'd love to though." Nash said with an apologetic tone.

"Yeah, I'll come." Hayes said excitedly, nudging Nash. He was instantly responded with a powerful shove that made Hayes fall off of his chair, like this happens often.

"OW. That hurt. I have feelings." Hayes said with a "duh" tone to Nash, him laughing so hard he was bent over. It was pretty funny how he just fell without any emotion.

I also soon started laughing, replaying the scene in my mind, ending up with me being in the same situation as Nash. Hayes soon stood up, dusted off his pants and flicked us both on the head.

"Ow. That hurt. I have feelings." Nash mocked Hayes, even putting on a higher voice.

"Are you looking to get kicked in the balls today?" Hayes asked sarcastically, soon being cut off by his mum.

"Dessert is ready! Apple pie, ice-cream and custard." She said, placing down a plate with the delicious-looking pie on it, and two bowls, one with vanilla ice-cream and a huge spoon, and one with the custard.

"Oh. My. Goodness." I drooled over the pie. It smelled SO good!

"Dig in, please!" Elizabeth, smiled, gesturing to the pie.

She cut up the pie with a huge knife, serving everyone a slice. We then helped ourselves to the extras.

"We don't usually eat this kind of stuff in Australia. It's more like.... Pavlova, or ice-cream." I said, finally having a different cultural experience.

"Really? Wow, you guys really are missing out!" Hayes said, a mouth full of pie.

"Hayes, use your manners please. We have a guest." His mum said, looking at him with a serious look.

"Oh no, it's fine." I said, smiling at Elizabeth. She had the most defined face, with sharp cheekbones and arched eyebrows. She reminded me of my Aunty Anna.

"Elizabeth, I must say, you remind me of my Aunty Anna. She had the most defined face; it was gorgeous nevertheless." I said, her smiling back, thankful that I made a comment.

"Had?" Hayes asked, looking up at me, now with an empty mouth but a fork with a huge chunk of pie on it.

"Oh, um.... She died when I was 10. Brain Cancer." I said quietly. I was now staring down at my meal, suddenly losing my appetite.

"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear that. If you don't mind me asking, did she have any children?" She asked with a solemn look on her face as she rubbed my back.

"Yeah, she had 4 children, one was a little girl called Clancey who was 6, a 17-year-old daughter, a 19-year-old daughter and an 13-year-old son, who now suffers depression. It's pretty full-on to say the least." I explained, laughing a little at the end.

"Oh... wow. I'm so sorry." Nash said, giving me a sad look.

The time flew by quickly, us all talking about our families, except for me. I was already emotionally unstable.

Too much to talk about it.
