Me and Tiki ended up wandering around instead of talking which eventually lead us to Jake and Ney'tiri. The two were sitting alone with A shadow over their heads as the sun started setting to reveal A beautiful orange. Ney'tiri was doing Jake's hair with a look of pure irritation as he kept wincing at the tight tugs at his head.
"Skxwang! Stop moving." Ney'tiri slapped Jakes forehead which was funny because it actually worked.
"Me personally, I don't think I'd take that." Jake looked up at me as I walked in their line of vision.
"Hi-" Jakes words go cut off by another tug at his skalp, "Will you stop, woman!?" We all laughed at the face he made.
"Im on the last row so if you'd stop moving, we could get youe hair done faster!" Ney'tiri moved his head to look back at me. But when she herself looked in my direction, she froze completely, her eyes widened as she took me in with A gasp.
"The disrespect is crazy." Tiki shook her head lightly making me laugh loudly.
"Right." I agreed through my laughter. I chose to ignore the expression Ney'tiri had on her face.
"You're going to the feast?" I looked at the woman who was finishing up her hair braiding task before nodding with a tight smile.
"Yes, and this little rat is coming with me." Their attention went to the young girl who looked like she was stuck to my leg.
"HEY!" While still holding onto my leg, she stepped away from me to give me A half pointed glare, "Instead of saying mean thing to me, how about you tell me how much you love and respect me?"
I rolled my eyes before picking the girl up so she ciuld rest on my hip, I stared at her for A second with A fond smile. Every moment I spent with this little girl, I felt for entitled to stay with her forever, "What is that saying you guys say towqrds each other?"
Jake was the first to speak, "I see you."
I looked back to the girl to repeat what the man had just just said. The girl hugged my neck, "I see you, momma." She said it quiet enough for only me to hear.
"C'mon, the feast starts soon." Ney'tiri stood up from the ledge she sat on behind Jake to walk past us when suddenly A loud horn blew indicating it started.
We passed through the decorated gates. I looked around only to soon realize just why kids weren't usually allowed here. What seemed like alcohol sat on A line of tables, women andmen danced with each other while others partook in dancing by themselves, hoping to catch the eyes of whomever. Loud music blasted from the voices of beautiful woman, A woman that I believe I heard the name of, Ninat, I believe stood proud, long hair in many braids that were decorated by purple and blue beads. Swirls of paint ran down her torso before disappearing under her blue loin cloth.
I tightened my hand around my daughters, my eyes turning to the girl who grimaced once she seen the boy she practically yelled at earlier with what seemed to be his mother. We walked through what seemed to be an endless amount of people before making it to the tables that held food and alcohol, alcohol that I made sure Tiki did not touch.
The young girl grabbed A steaming leaf filled with what I knew was meat while I grabbed A cup filled to the brim with liquid.
"Ma, why is that woman over there staring at that dude like he's special?" I laughed a little bit at the girls remark.
"Maybe she likes him." She did a double take betwee looking at the woman and the man who, unknown to the other, stared at each other.
"They're both ugly so they'd be cute I guess." I broke down laughing. I almost fell over before shaking the feel in my legs off.
"Thats so meann."
Shortly after our little laugh, I took notice of Jake and Ney'tiri dancing with each othwr. Jakes hands roaming her waist with eyes that held so much loyalty I could almost choke.
Tiki looked between me and them over and over before speaking out whatever conclusion she'd come to, "You like them."
It felt like time had stopped once I realized just what the girl I now claimed as my own had just said.
"No I don't. They're my friends if you can even call them that." She stared at me with so much judgement that I could just smack her upside the head.
"Watch the face you're making at me." Instantly, her face changed.
"Ma, you practically had stars in your eyes." The girl folded her arms as she seen me down the alcohol in my cup.
"I was not." I grabbed another cup to down as realization dawned me like a hurricane.
They were mated, I could not come between that.
"How old are you again, Tiki?"
"You know my age, im 6." I sat my now empty glass down, my legs a little wobbly as the alcohol started to take affect.
"well shit. Im so old." I looked around in hope to find something to distract the girl that was screwing with my well kept mind set.
I took notice of the little boy from earlier and dragged her there towards him, "Talk to your friend." I walked away from the two.
I walked over to Ney'tiri and Jake who danced, eyes of love visible. I stood there and waited for them to notice my presence but once they did, they were stunned having not expecting me to be there.
Ney'tiri looked as if she were going to say something but it couldn't come out because she folded over slightly to hold her stomach, a face of sickness clear as day as she puked all over the floor. Everyone stopped and stared, looks of horrer as they registered just who's vomit was on the floor. It would make sense since they've already lost so many people due to my father.
Jake and I keeled next to her as her stomach emptied out the food she'd eaten. Mo'at soon ran towards us, a fear and determination mixed in her movement.
"Jake, can you lift her? We must get her looked at." Once Jake had the woman in her arms, I ran in the direction I had left my kid.
"Is Ney'tiri okay?" Tiki looked as if she wanted to cry as I picked her up.
"She's ganna be fine, Tiki. I promise."
