I woke up to blaring lights in my face, and voices screeching in my ears. I turned my head, wanting to escape the light above me.

"She's awake!" Norm's voice filled my ears making me want to roll over and cry.

All of a sudden, hands were all over me, making me peek an eye open to see just it was.

"Mama, are you okay?" Neteyam said, a look of worry on his face.

"I'm okay, 'Teyam." I tried to smile at the best of my abilities but I could hardly do that.

I felt arms wrap around my body making me look down to see Lo'ak laying on the bed with me, Tears streaming down his face as he hugged me.

"Why are you crying, Lo'ak?"

"I thought you died." I blinked at him, laughing at the thought.

"I was only shot in the arm, something so simple can't kill me, Dear."

"Yeah, cause my Ma's undefeated!"

I always say that my kids are my biggest supporters, because they are. And I'll always do the same for them.

I heard footsteps behind us. We all looked over to see my loves and my other daughter, Tiki walking towards me, smiles of relief on their face. Tuk was running in my direction, and headbutted through Kiri and Neteyam to lay on top of me.

"Are you okay, Ma?" She asked, her long hair dangling passed her waist. Over the years, she'd gone through a strike where she wouldn't cut it.

The 21 year old held a clipboard in her hand, her eyes trailing over my wrapped wound.

She wanted to be like Norm, a scientist, or whatever he was these days.

I don't really pay attention to human activities unless danger wise, so whatever our human assets do is, almost, completely unknown to me.

But I'll support my baby girl in whatever she wants to do.

A day passed and I sat in our tent, working on the necklace I planned to give Kiri. She's been sulking for awhile, sad because she'd broken her favorite one— so I'm making her a new one. I looked at the beads, clacking them together.

All of a sudden, Ney'tiri walked in with Jake trailing behind her. The tension was thick, yelling ensuing from them.

"You can't ask this!" She said, completely disregarding that I was here.

"If you'd just listen—"

"No! This is our home! It's all our kids have ever known, the forest! We can't leave." I looked between the two of them, my heart sinking. It was rare that we'd ever fight.

I sat the necklace down, my attention solely on the fighting couple in front of me.

"He had our kids under his knife." The room went silent. The woman turned towards me, a helpless look on her face.

"Zada, tell him." She pointed her finger at the man as she looked at me, "Tell him we can't leave!"

I looked at her, unsure of what I should do. But I was certain on one thing: If they were in danger once, it could happen again.

"Jake is right, our children were so close to dying... If we stay, who knows what will happen.... Fuck, and they have my brother." My shoulders sink as the thought finally sat in. The woman stared at me in disbelief before she walked towards her father's bow, and grabbed it off it's mantle.

"My father gave me this bow as he layed dying, and said Protect the people."

I looked down at the necklace. I'd heard of the incident once before from Jake. It was a mournful incident that made me feel for her.

"Ney'tiri, if these people harbor us, they will die. We could die." He held onto her shoulders as he looked into her eye, "look, I have nothing. I have no plan, but I can protect this family."

Ney'tiri stepped back, looking between the both of us as tears shown in her gold eyes.

"But I know one thing, wherever we go, this family is our fortress."

I smiled, the two hugging while I picked the necklace back up to finish it.

I had no problem leaving this place as my family did, they were coming with me so why should I care?

"It's your home, where the people reside." This was never ment to truly be my home, my home relied with loyalty to whoever I deemed fit for it. And my family layed on top of that list, and they will forever be.
