5 - A Love Spell

It was the next day and Mal, Evie, Carlos, and I were hanging out in our room. Mal was sitting on her bed flipping through her spell book, Carlos was sitting on the ground next to her bed on his computer, Evie was sitting at the desk doing Chad's homework with the help of her mirror, and I made myself comfy in my bed as I did my homework.

A while later Jay walks into our room, wearing a jersey with his name on it and showing it off to us.

We all admire him in his new jersey, me especially.

Jay walked over to me on my bed and sat down by my legs, leaning back and resting on his arms. "So did the plan work with Jane?" He asked towards Mal. "Are you going over to see the wand?"

"Do you think that I would be going through every single spell in this book if I hadn't completely struck out?!" Mal snapped back.

"Someone's in a bad mood," Carlos muttered under his breath.

"Well my mom's counting on me!" Mal exclaimed, throwing her hands up in frustration. "I can't let her down." Mal flicks Carlos on the head, and he looks back at her, annoyed. Well, to be fair, ALL our parents are counting on US but I understand the added pressure Mal feels.

"Hey- we can do this..." Jay starts, standing up from his place on my bed. All of us look to him as he continues. "If we all stick together."

Mal raises her eyebrows at all of us. "And we won't go back until we do," she says, looking all of us in the eye. "Because we're rotten..." she begins.

"To the core," we all finish our motto together.

"Oh yeah, I found out Fairy Godmother blesses Ben with the wand at coronation and we all get to go," Evie states. We all glance at Evie. Wow, way to hold back on that one, E. I think. "I have nothing to wear, of course."

I laugh at her, sitting up and setting my homework aside. "Yes, E. That's exactly what we should be worried about right now," I joke with her.

We then heard knocking at the door. Mal gets up to answer.

"Hey, Mal." We hear Ben's voice from the hall. "I didn't see you guys today, I was just wondering if you had any questions or anything that you needed," he said, seeming a bit nervous.

"Not that I know of," Mal answers, looking back to us to see if we had questions. I shook my head as I stood and walked over next to Jay, and Evie joined us standing next to me. No one else had questions either.

"Okay, alrighty. Well uh... if you need anything-"

"Oh, wait!" Mal stopped Ben. "Um, is it true that we all get to go to your coronation?" She asks. I think I know where she's going with this.

"Yeah, the whole school goes," Ben answers.

"Wow, do you think it's a possibility that the five of us could stand in front next to the Fairy Godmother to just... soak in all that goodness?" Mal asks. I put on my best fake smile to convince Ben.

"I wish you could," Ben tells us. I cross my arms dejected, disappointed that yet ANOTHER plan to grab the wand was being destroyed. "Up front it's just me, my folks, and my girlfriend." Ben says.

All our faces light up at this news. "And your girlfriend?" Mal restates. I see we've gotten the same idea.

"Yeah, I'm sorry," Ben tells us. "Okay, thanks. Bye!" Mal's says as she quickly shuts the door on Ben.

She spins around to face us. "I think it's time that Bennyboo got himself a new girlfriend," and I smile, knowing that this plan just had to work. "And I need a love spell."
