The time Mal was spending on her date, Evie and I were spending together in our room.
"I cant wait to hear all the details when M gets back," Evie says, laying down next to me on her bed which we both crashed on when Mal left. Her head was laying on her pillows with her feet curled up under her and I was laying backwards, my head towards the foot of the bed and my feet were propped on the pillow next to her head.
"Yeah, and hear about how she and Ben made out the whole time," I laughed as I joked with Evie. She laughed at my joke as she pushed my feet off the side of the bed, forcing me up. I decided to change positions and lay my head down next to her.
Evie propped her head on her hand, resting her elbow on the pillow, as she looked me up and down. "Speaking of dates... how is Jay doing?" She asked, raising an eyebrow at me.
I raised one back at her in confusion. "What do you mean, E?"
Evie rolled her eyes. "You know what I mean. You obviously like Jay, F/i," she said. My face fell, and I turned away from Evie. I've been feeling strange around Jay recently, ever since we got here really, but I've been avoiding calling it that.
"See? F/i, it's okay to admit it. In fact, I'm almost certain that he likes you too," She said, sitting upright.
I sat upright too, but moved my feet so they were hanging off the edge of the bed. I looked down at the ground, thinking through my emotions and sighed. "I just- ugh... our friendship is too important to me. If I speak up and he doesn't like me back, E, then what happens? There's no way we could continue normally. It would be too... weird," I said, not looking up from the ground. I wrapped my arms around my body, trying to comfort myself but it wasn't working.
I felt the bed dip and move behind me as Evie popped up next to me and wrapped her arms around my shoulder, moving my head to rest on her shoulder which I happily complied. She began rubbing my arm comfortingly and I began to finally calm down. "I know, but I wouldn't tell you this unless I was absolutely sure. Yeah, you two are great friends, but you're also closer than any of us and I believe you'd be even better as a couple," Evie said.
I moved from our closeness to look at Evie directly. I paused for a moment before breaking the eye contact by laughing at myself for overthinking so much. "You really think he likes me too?" I asked her. She nodded and smiled, placing one of her hands on mine that were resting in my lap.
"Yes, I really do."
Evie and I looked at each other, and both simultaneously broke out laughing. After our fit of laughter, I wiped a tear from my eye. "You're really overthinking this too much, F/i. Trust me." Evie said, trying to control her breathing after our shared laughing fit.
"Do you think I should tell him?" I asked, not sure of what I should do.
Evie nodded "Yes, but only if you're ready." She told me, truthfully.
I thought for a moment. Am I ready? "Okay," I said, making up my mind. "I think I am ready." Evie's face lit up with a smile, and I felt mine doing the same. "Tomorrow after class, I'll tell Jay that I love him and that I-"
I was cut off my Evie gasping as she covered her moth with both her hands. I was taken aback. "What?" I asked, concerned.
Evie slowly lowered her hands to reveal an even bigger smile, though I'm not sure how it was possible. "You just said love..." she said. I thought back to what I just said, when I gasped just like Evie did.
"Y/n... do you love him?" She asked me, approaching the subject as if she was walking on eggshells. I looked away from Evie, trying to process my own feelings.
