Tessia's Idea

Arthur entered the throne room of the Zestier palace after having been summoned by Virion. He was a bit surprised by this development, as he had given a report regarding the current progress on dismantling the trafficking ring that was discovered just outside of Asyphin only a couple of days before. He knew the former commander couldn't have expected much progress in such a short amount of time.

He quickly noted his mentor was not currently present in the room at the given time. Instead, he was greeted by the sight of his partner Lance Aya. This only served to increase his curiosity as to what was going on, as it was rare for both of the lances to be in the same room at the same time.

"Good morning, Aya. Do you by chance know what this could be about?" Arthur greeted the dark-haired woman before standing next to her at attention, ready to receive orders.

The beautiful lance shook her head, leading to locks of hair to sway with the motion. "Not a clue. I was just told to be here as well."

The two lances didn't have to wait long, however. Soon, Virion entered the room, giving both of his lances a curt nod before he stood in front of them.

"Thank you both for coming today. I know this isn't something we normally do, but the circumstances related to the next political meeting seemed to warrant this discussion in my opinion."

Both Arthur and Aya nodded, waiting for him to continue. "Typically when Tessia goes on her diplomatic visits to various areas, we have been sending Aya to go with her as her guard. However, for this trip, I think it might be best for Arthur to go instead."

Aya spoke up. "No problem, Elder. I am happy to go wherever I am needed. But may I ask where she will be visiting next?"

Virion responded. "The Council wanted to send a representative to Alacrya to work with Eleanor to help iron out some kinks in some pending trade agreements between the two continents. Tessia was chosen to go. Since Arthur is more familiar with Alacryan politics and culture than you, we felt he would be a better choice."

Arthur's ear perked up when he heard 'Alacrya' get mentioned. This was perfect! He had been missing his family for some time now, and this trip gave him the perfect excuse to meet them and see how they were doing.

Aya gave a knowing smile to Virion while nodding her head. "Of course, I think that is a wise decision."

Virion responded. "Good. Arthur, you, and Tessia will be going early next week and will be gone for quite a while, so plan accordingly. Please find some time to sync up with Aya and get her up to speed with what is happening on the Asyphin front."

Arthur felt light on his feet, struggling to keep his smile off his face as he fought to not bounce from excitement. "Will do, thank you."

"Excellent, that is all. Thank you, both of you."

Arthur practically sprinted out of the room as soon as he was dismissed, much to the amusement of both Virion and Aya. Once the door closed again, Aya smirked as she turned to Virion. "Whose idea was this? Yours or Princess Tessia's?"

Virion chuckled, not surprised that the lance that had been by his side for decades at this point saw right through him. "It was Tessia's idea. She said that she learned that Arthur was feeling lonely without Alice and Ellie. He visits them whenever he gets a break, but it isn't enough I guess. She thought it would be a good idea if Arthur came for the trip. I am sorry for springing this on you without talking first."

Aya smiled while shaking her head. "No need, Elder. I think it is a smart decision personally. Arthur has been away from them for quite a while. I would have done the same thing."

Virion smirked. "Also, this way Tessia and the brat will spend multiple months with each other day in and day out without much in the way of interference. Something is bound to happen hopefully. I just hope the brat has the sense to ask for my blessing before giving her a ring."

Aya laughed at the former king's antics, but found herself silently agreeing. Compared to the other potential suitors for Tessia, she felt that Arthur was the clear, best choice. Even though he was a human, he had been trained by the former elven king, and even lived in the palace for much of his childhood. As a lance of Elenoir, Arthur was privy to all of elven customs and social norms. From what she had seen and heard, Arthur carried out his duties diligently and humbly. He had garnered a ton of respect from the elven people that went beyond his status as a war hero. As ironic as it may be, Aya truly believed that the next king of the elves should be a human.
