Clearly they're soulmates, but they both want more than friendship. Alex also struggles with depression, Jack is desperate to help him.
<< 3rd POV >>
"You know what's beautiful about death, Jack?"
"Nothing."
Alex laughed at Jack's response, shaking his head.
"That it brings people together... People that had no chance of ever repairing things."
"Don't even start with that shit." Jack glared at his best friend. "Get a new guitarist or start another band, don't you dare give me any of that."
Alex didn't think he had any other choice.
All Time Low was their entire life. Alex's entire life. Without it, he'd never be himself. There wasn't a choice of finding a new band... not a chance that he'd even consider it.
Jack was Alex's entire life. Without him, he couldn't keep his head straight. There wasn't a choice of finding a new guitarist... because he'd be dead within a month.
Jack didn't have trouble keeping his head straight, not like Alex did. The vocalist was often caught up in a dream world. He saw things in a way that no one else did. If they did, they hadn't the words to get through to prove that they saw it too. It was too intricate... beautiful. Unfortunately for Alex, seeing the beauty in things comes at a cost. A cost that drove him into the gutter, crying his eyes out every night. A pain so deep that he didn't know how to cope. Alex wanted it to stop. He needed it to. He was desperate, and it was getting too bad. Jack kept that at bay, as did the band.
If Alex died, Jack would eventually be okay, and their friends would take the guitarist back. Right?
It hurt Alex to see Jack hurting so much over this. Over the band and Alex's tendencies. He knew what it was like. Of course Jack still wanted to live, but pain was pain no matter the thoughts it caused.
"Jack?" Alex scooted closer to his best friend, their shoulders pressing into each other. They had an entire bench, but they both enjoyed the closeness. The sun was about to rise over the snow covered park in Jack's old neighborhood, everything was grey other than the orange lights that lit the space around them. Alex had been looking at that for a while.
"Yeah, Lex?" Jack looked over at Alex, smiling at how the street light lit up his face. There wasn't any doubt that his band mate was the definition of beautiful, he'd known that as a fact from the day he met him. He'd fallen for him, hard and fast. He'd do anything for him.
"I love roses, don't you?" Alex asked, his words causing a cloud from his warm breath. "And dark wood."
"Alex, stop it." Jack frowned. Every time the vocalist opened his mouth, it seemed to be something that hurt Jack in the worst possible way. "If you died, I wouldn't be there to plan everything. I'd be in a grave right next to yours."
"That would be an unreasonable tragedy."
"So would yours." Jack spoke without hesitation, desperate to bring him back from whatever had dragged him into the dark.
"...Maybe."
"Not maybe."
"Ja-"
"Alex."
Alex sighed, looking to the ground his feet were planted on. He kicked a bit of snow, smiling at how it flew through the air.
"I'll find a way to fix it, okay?" Jack asked, still staring at the pretty boy.
"You fucked Rian's wife." Alex smirked, looking back up at Jack. He wasn't smirking because he'd done it, he was smirking because of Jack's stupidity and how he managed to never think about his actions. He hated that he'd done it for two reasons.
