Alex Gaskarth is a major fucking dick.

Everyone always knew that, it wasn't exactly something he hid.

Mr. Popular.
Jack hated that particular term, but he hated Alex too, so why use something he liked?

Before high school, Alex was just an anxious kid with a best friend named Jack.

Yep, best friends.

Now, Jack was lucky if he got by without seeing the asshole.

Unfortunately for the boy with the dark hair and bleached stripes, today was not one of those days.
Jack was sitting by himself at lunch, just minding his business, when Alex sat across from him.

"Fuck off." Jack groaned, hitting his head on the table. He pulled at his sleeves, making sure they were over his hands somewhat. It became an unconscious habit, he did it when he was nervous.

"Are you jerking off or something?" Alex asked in a disgusted tone, almost making Jack laugh. He was smart enough to not do that. The skunk haired boy sat back up and shook his head, glaring at Alex.

"Can you just fucking leave me alone?" Jack was exhausted from lack of sleep, and he was already pissed.

"No, I have to be here." Alex smirked at Jack, causing him to roll his eyes.

"You don't have to be anywhere."

"Actually, I do. I got dared to sit with you for five minutes." Alex sounded happy about it. "Here, I'll quote it for you, 'I dare you to go sit with the stupid faggot over there.'"

"Why do you hate me so damn much?" Jack sighed, about ready to just give up and let Alex torment him while he sat silently. It'd been four hellish years of insults and slurs. Jack was done with it all, he wanted out.

"Because you're a faggot." He spat, cringing at the younger boy. "You're fucking annoying too, it pisses me the fuck off."

That one stung.

"It's been five minutes." Jack mumbled, looking down at the table. It had been three.

"Thank god." Alex laughed bitterly, almost running away from Jack to get back to his table.

Jack wanted to go home and eat something, he hadn't had the time to get breakfast.

So Jack did go home.

He hadn't gotten a lunch either, he didn't like to eat in front of people. He was tired of getting called fat when he did. Jack may he insecure, but he wasn't insecure about that. He wasn't fat, he knew it. He was insecure about his body, but for the opposite reason. He was too skinny. He wanted his arms to have muscle to them, and his legs to have a bit more meat. He saw a skeleton every time he looked in the mirror, and he hated it. No matter what he tried, nothing worked. He wanted to work out, but he didn't have the energy.

It was nearing December, so it was cold out. He'd managed to sneak out when the bell rang, and he almost regretted it. He knew facing the cold was worth it though, Alex was in his last three classes, he'd gladly walk through snow to avoid that.

It wasn't snowing yet though, thank god for that. Well, not god, but... Figure of speech. Jack was an atheist. After what he'd been through, seen, and knew, there wasn't any way that there was a god.

Alex had always disagreed with that. He wasn't overly religious, not until high school.

Jack wasn't sure what the hell happened to change everything.
