The History of The Group Chat

The Dark Ages Part 1

The Dark Ages, a term used to describe a terrifying time in the group chat. This era was full of boredom, denial, and long, grueling Truth or Dare sessions. The boredom occurred in many ways and one of these ways was the short conversations. They usually consisted of one to two minute conversations that only spoke about the current status of someone's day. The group chat was no longer a place to go to when you felt sad or lonely because you would get no joy out of these sorts of conversations.

My first experience of the denial of the group chat was when I was scolded for admitting that we were living in the Dark Ages. I was told that the Dark Ages don't exist and that the group chat and its conversations have been the same since the beginning. By this point, Lia and I had already agreed on an official group chat timeline but this wasn't communicated to the others. I was terrified that if no one realizes the situation that we are in, we would remain in it until the end of the group chat. What could I do? Nothing at all. If I had attempted to address the situation, I would have been scolded worse than I had before. I didn't really care if I was but I still decided to wait it out. Luckily, the others had realized that the Dark Ages was a reality and that it was a definite problem.

The Truth or Dare sessions, possibly the worse out of all the Dark Ages' atrocities. They weren't bad in the beginning. Like normal teenagers, we usually played it during parties and other get-together's. But they soon started to become an uncontrollable habit and at some points we played three nights in a row! If only there were a rehab for Truth or Dare addicts. Movie night, which I will explain in the future, was the usual Truth or Dare hub. It was fun when we played during the first and second nights of movie night but as we continued, it became an obsession. This obsession resulted in the many incidents of the friend group that will continue to go down in group chat history.
