She had never felt so free. Y/N laughed as she ran through the streets of Mond, giggling as she taunted the blue haired boy behind her. The two of them were barely blurs, weaving through alley ways. She could almost feel his breath on her back as he caught up. Y/N picked up the speed, sprinting hard before launching off the ground, grabbing on the roof ledge and throwing herself into the air, landing on top of the building. She stops for a second to lean back over the edge, sticking her tongue out at Kaeya who stared up at her (in wonder). With that, Y/N turned once more and went on, leaping from roof top to roof top as Kaeya raced below her. She leaped again, descending sharply and deploying her wind glider to glide down to a lower roof before continuing.
There was a point to this. Going on routinely runs around the city helped build endurance and strength. Especially, as she was a woman, she drew most of her strength in her legs- instead of her upper body, which was substantially weaker. Running was what she was good at. After all, she had been running her whole life.
And also, when she won, it was nice to have something to brag about and rub it in Kaeya's face. She didn't think he minded, though. Y/N hopped off the last building, stopping for a moment to see where she was, before making her way down the next street. Somehow, she found herself back a the main square, and she was startled by a sudden commotion in front of good hunter's.
"...Timmy?" The pigeon boy? Y/N frowned. That was odd, he rarely left the bridge. And what was also peculiar, was that Grace, the nun at the cathedral- was also there, standing beside him, shaking her head disapprovingly. She stepped closer. "Timmy," Grace sighed. "No! I want tea break pancakes!" Timmy pouted. Timmy was always shown to be very mature and protective of his pigeons, so Y/N was a bit surprised at his outburst. She walked up to them. "What seems to be the problem? She asked. Grace turned to her and smiled.
"Ah, Miss Wren-" Y/N couldn't help but flinch at the name. "It's nothing much in particular, its just that..." Another heavy sigh. "Timmy was hungry, so I told him I would get him something light, but-" "I don't want a salad," Timmy said, his brows furrowed as he kicked at the ground. "I want pancakes..." Ah. Despite everything, Timmy was still a child, after all. Y/N couldn't help but giggle at this. "Pancakes will spoil your appetite," Grace explained gently. "If you eat something so filling now, you won't be hungry when you get home in time for dinner." "But... I don't like potatoes. Or lettuce." Timmy made a face. Y/N smiled, and lowered herself to his height. She was small, so she only really needed to bend her knees a little. "Timmy. Do you want to hear a secret?"
Timmy narrowed his eyes, nodding his head cautiously. Y/N made a show of looking, as if checking for any eavesdroppers, even though Grace was literally right next to them. "Don't you, want to grow taller?" She whispered, cupping her hands around her mouth and smiling at him impishly. "...Huh?" Curiosity glowed in his eyes, and he leaned closer. "Don't you want to grow big and strong, so you can protect your cute pigeons?" Timmy nodded excitedly. "Yeah!" Oh, Timmy. Y/N apologized profuriously in her head, remembering how many times she had committed mass pigeon murder. "Well, I'm really sorry, but the only way to grow taller is..."
"To eat your vegetables." Almost immediately, Timmy deflated. "...Is that really the only way?" Timmy frowned, staring at her suspiciously. "Is that really true?" He squinted. Y/N thought for a moment. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a head of ginger hair appear from around the corner. Heh. She smirked. She pointed at Childe, the 11th harbinger. "You see him?" Timmy whirled around, his eyes widening when he saw him. Childe, thank god, for once wasn't being a tyrant and was following Klee across the square (he must be on babysitting duty) as he laughed. "Wow- he's so tall! Like a giant!" Y/N snorted. As if sensing their gaze, Childe stopped, and turned around to face them. He grinned and waved. Y/N looked away, gently turning Timmy away to face her. "You see? He's a perfect example." She nodded and plastered a I-know-I'm-right-so-I-am look on her face.
"How do you think he got so tall? Because he ate lots of vegetables. All of them. Especially carrots." Timmy blinked. "Carrots?" Y/N could barely stop herself from bursting into laughter. "Yes. Carrots. How do you think his hair got that orange?" "Genetics?" Wow. Smart kid. "No. Carrots." She stared at him pointedly, as if to say, how could you not know? "So, that's why you should listen to Miss Grace here, and say thank you for buying a healthy meal for you. Listen to your parents, eat what they give you." Timmy sighed, and nodded. "Good boy," Y/N gave a closed eye smile and patted him once on the head. He smiled at that. Y/N stood. "Well, I'd better get going-"
"Wait!" Timmy spoke up once more. She raised an eyebrow and glanced down at him expectantly. "Uh... if it's true, why are you so small then? Did your mom not give you any carrots?" Y/N froze. ...Parents? She... was not aware she had parents. After all, when she woke up in this body, she had assumed at its unruly state that the original owner was an orphan. But she never knew for sure, and she had never found a reason to confirm it. "I..." Y/N took a deep breath, and smiled shakely. "No, thats not it. I just wasn't a very good kid. I didn't eat my veggies, and as you can see, I got the short end of the stick when it comes to height- quite literally." She laughed at her own joke. With that, she waved and turned around, keeping the smile plastered on her face until she reached the stairwell. Y/N sighed. What a day.
When she reached the knight's of favonius headquarters, she found Kaeya standing at the large doors, looking very proud of himself as he stared down at her from the front steps. Oh no. "I won," He said triumphantly, smirking. Shoot. She had forgotten all about that. Y/N took a step inside, before stopping.
Was it just her, or was something- or someone- watching her? She glanced behind her. She could almost feel it, the malice waves that formed daggers aimed right at her. "Something wrong?" She turned back to Kaeya, who was waiting expectantly. "No, no-" She said quickly. Y/N shook her head. "Nothing is wrong..." She sounded like she was reassuring herself, more than him. Together, they headed inside.

High above them, on the rooftops, stood a lone figure dressed in a white lab coat. His face twisted into a sardonic grin as he took one hand out of his pocket to tap against his mask in thought. "Hmm... what an interesting turn of events... should I report this?"
