It was a typical day in the thieves guild. The air in the cistern was damp and humid, and y/n was doing her work as the guild master. The workload had more than doubled since Brynjolf had stopped coming to the guild, so she was stuck doing paperwork hours into the night.

Y/n sighed as she set down her quill. She was tired, and everyone around her could tell. The bags and dark circles under her eyes were enough for anyone to know that she hadn't gotten sleep in a long while.

It had gotten so bad that Delvin had even stepped in, telling the grumpy guild master to get some rest. She was thankful for this, of course, but her work wasn't the only thing keeping her up at night. Brynjolf was. Y/n was worried about him. He had suddenly cut her off by saying that he had 'better things to do' than talk to her, and then he went missing with only a small note to explain his absence.

Y/n picked her quill back up and started to write ledgers. Everything hurt: her eyes, her arms, her legs, her hands, and most importantly, her heart.

Ever since Brynjolf had left, claiming that he had some business on Solestheim, she had realized her dependence on him. He had provided her with company and a shoulder to lean on. Now that he was gone, she couldn't help but feel lonely, like she could never depend on anyone to help her.

He had been gone for three torturous months, with no sign of coming back to her, and she was beginning to get desperate. She had sent people to look for him in both Solestheim and Skyrim, afraid that he might have been captured on the way to his destination.

As she thought of her lost love, she felt her eyes grow heavy, and her quill drops from her hand. She was too exhausted to even keep her eyes open. She drifted off into sleep's beautiful solitude.

-In her sleep-

"Good evening, Lass. I see you've gotten yourself into some trouble."

Y/n laughed, her body covered with mud from head to toe, "Yeah, Frost threw me from his back, and I landed in some mud!"

"I can see that," Brynjolf laughed as I strode next to him, "You don't seem to know how to keep yourself clean."

Suddenly, Brynjolf's demeanor changed from one of comfort to one of judgment, "You filthy Greyskin."

I gasped, not believing what I was hearing, "What did you just say, Brynjolf?"

"I think you know what I said," he snickered, "No one could ever love you. Not Vex, not Delvin, not Karliah, and not me."

- End of dream-

Y/n woke up, confused as to where she was. She remembered that she had fallen asleep on her desk and calmed down a little bit, only to remember her dream.

Before she could process anything about her horrible dream, she sensed movement. As quick as a thief, she turned around and placed the sharp edge of her quill on the intruder's throat.

"Who are you?" Y/n asked.

There was a pause before a sarcastic voice replied, "So. Are you going to let me go, or are we going to sit here all night?"

Y/n's eyes widened, "Vex, I'm sorry. I don't know what got into me."

"Obviously. None of us do. I was coming to check on you, and you were sleeping on the job. Y/n, you never do that. Delven wanted me to ask you to do a special job for him, but I think it would be better if you just stay here and rest."

"No! Vex! Really, I'm fine! I've just been a little bit under the weather the past few days."

"Psh," Vex scoffed, "More like the past few months. Ever since Brynjolf left, you haven't been the same. You're always moping around, feeling sorry for yourself. You won't even admit to anyone that you're in love with him."

"You're one to talk!" I shot back, raising my voice, "You won't admit that you're in love with Delvin, and you've been at it longer than I have!"

"What about me?" came Delvin's voice from the entrance of my office.

"Nothing." snarled Vex.

"See!"

Vex shot me a glare before turning it to Delvin, "Devlin, get out of here before I have to drag you out."

Delvin's voice came again, smug and calm, "I would love that, darling."

I gave an exhasparated sigh, "You two keep dancing around each other! You are more infuriating than I am!"

That made Vex's calm and cool demeanor crumble, "Why, you little..."

"Seriously, Lass?" I froze, I knew that voice, "I leave the guild for three months, and I come back to you yelling at each other," he chuckled, "You need me that badly, do you Lass?"

I slowly turned around with tears in my eyes, feeling Vex and Delvin sneak out behind me, "You have no idea."
