With that, the little creature scurries out of the clearing, laughing. Luke and I stare ofter him. All we can see is the faint light from the lamp as it moves through the fog. I make my decision, turn to my brother and shrug, before starting after the creature. I soon hear footsteps behind me, I turn and look for who's making them. It's my brother.
"Come, come," says the creature.
Artoo whistles his protest.
"Stay here and watch after the camp, Artoo." Luke says.
Artoo beeps even more frantically. But as we get farther away his beeping and chirping get quieter.
A downpour of rain pounds through the trees. Luke, the creature, and I are in a strange little house made of mud. It is warm though, and dry, so even if it is a little odd looking, it's functional. I look over to the window and see Artoo peaking up through the window as the rain dances on his head.
Everything in the house is the same size as the creature, so for Luke and I, that's a slight problem as everything is smaller than us. Since we're too big to use the furniture, Luke and I sit cross-legged on the floor of the living room.
The creature is in his kitchen, cooking up something that smells amazing! The stove is a steaming mess of pots and pans. The little creature scurries about chopping one thing, then shredding something else, and showering everything with herbs and spices. He rushes back and forth, placing the dishes on the table in front of Luke and I. Luke, as usual, is watching the creature impatiently, I admit, I'm not very patient myself, but I am better than Luke at it.
"Look, I'm sure it's delicious. I just don't understand why we can't see Yoda now."
I elbow my twin right in the ribs, which makes him wince. The creature has clearly worked hard to make food for us, and the least we could do is be grateful!
"Patience! For the Jedi it is time to eat as well. Eat, eat. Hot. Good food, hm? Good, hm?"
Luke and I maneuver, with difficulty, to sit by the fire and eat. When I taste the food I am very pleasantly surprised. It tastes amazing! I'm sure my eyes have gone wide like Luke says they do whenever I taste something I like.
"How far away is Yoda? Will it take us long to get there?"
Why can he not stop for a minute and eat? I've not had a meal this decent since before we left Tatooine.
"Not far. Yoda not far. Patience. Soon you will both be with him," the creature tastes the food in the pot. "Rootleaf, I cook. Why wish you become Jedi? Hm?"
"Mostly because of our father, I suppose," I say, one of the first things I've said since we got to the little house.
"Ah, your father. Powerful Jedi was he, powerful Jedi, mmm."
Luke then gets a little angry, I do to, but I'm mostly curious.
"Oh, come on. How could you know our father? You don't even know who we are. Oh, I don't know what I'm doing here, I can't speak for Leeda though. We're wasting our time."
The creature then turns away from us and speaks to someone else.
"I cannot teach them. The boy has no patience, the girl has some, but not much."
That's when it clicks. He knew our father, because he is Master Yoda. And he's speaking to Ila and Ben.
Ben's voice cuts into my thoughts, "They will both learn patience."
