Hi everyone, welcome back to our series on Polish Class 101. In the previous Chapter, we covered some common phrases for introducing yourself and starting a conversation. Today, we will be learning some more phrases that will help you communicate effectively in everyday situations.




Phrase 1: "Jestem Kasia [Name]."
This phrase means "I am Kasia," and is used to introduce yourself by name.



Phrase 2: "Ile masz lat?"
This means "How old are you?"

To answer this, you can use the phrase "Mam Dwadzieścia [20] lat," which means "I am 20 years old."

When your age ends with 2, 3, or 4, you add "lata," except for 12, 13, and 14.

For example, "Mam Dwadzieścia trzy [23] lata."



Phrase 3: "Skąd jesteś?"
This means "Where are you from?"



Phrase 4: "Nie wiem."
This means "I don't know."



Phrase 5: "Nie rozumiem."
This means "I don't understand."



Phrase 6: "Nie mówię po polsku."
This means "I don't speak Polish."



Phrase 7: "Miłego dnia!"
This is a common phrase used to wish someone a nice day.

You can reply with "Nawzajem" or "Wzajemnie,"
which means "Likewise."



Phrase 8: "Smacznego."
This is a common phrase used before a meal to wish someone a good appetite.



Phrase 9: "Nie ma za co."
This means "You're welcome."



Phrase 10: "Nie ma problemu."
This means "No problem."



Phrase 11: "Chciałbym [male]/Chciałabym [female]."
This means "I would like."



Phrase 12: "Mam..."
This means "I have..."

For example, "Mam pytanie," which means "I have a question."



Phrase 13: "Co to znaczy...?"
This means "What does...mean?"

For example, "Co to znaczy 'dziękuję'?"
which means "What does 'thank you' mean?"



Phrase 14: "Jak powiedzieć po polsku...?"
This means "How do you say...in Polish?"

For example, "Jak powiedzieć po polsku 'hello'?"



Phrase 15: "Co to jest?"
This means "What is this?"



Phrase 16: "To jest..."
This means "This is..."

For example, "To jest książka,"
which means "This is a book."
