Crack. Will woke up startled, hearing the twig break. He sat up and looked around and all he saw was Emma sleeping peacefully next to him on the floor.
"Hey, wake up. Did you hear that?" Will whisper yelled at Emma, but all he got in response was a groan followed by,
"No, go check it out though." She said groggily.
"Why me?"
"Because you're the guy here!" Emma responded, waving him off with her hand.
Crack. And with that, Emma sat up straight, with a serious face.
Crack. They got up running and turned left of a bush. There was a person there that let out a small scream as Emma used her powers to levitate and pin her to a tree. She had her hands up and there was a golden mist coming out of her hands and wrapping around the fairy women pinned to the tree. The women had platinum blonde hair, vivid lavender purple eyes with high cheekbones and a pointy chin. She also had pointy elf ears. She was wearing a long blue flowy ball gown with a low shoulder design and the dress had a flower belt. Very fairytale-like.
"Who are you?!" Will asked fiercely.
"I'm Princess Alynafae." the woman said, causing Emma to let out a gasp and let her down, apologizing sincerely.
"I am so sorry, I didn't know. And Mr. Burton hadn't said that you were a princess," Emma said as she started to babble on like an idiot.
"It is okay," Alynafae said,
"And Oh My Heavens, Emma! You've grown up so much, and gotten so beautiful!" she exclaimed. Both Will and Emma looked taken aback.
"How do you know me?" Emma stuttered.
"Well my dear, I am your Aunt, didn't Vycemyr tell you?"
"You're my what?"
"Your Aunt. your mother's little sister."
"No you're not, my mother wasn't a princess, she said she didn't have any
family." Emma exclaimed, shocked.
"Yes, well I imagine my sister wouldn't want to flaunt that she was Princess in
waiting after she was exiled for having a child with a filthy human! As you may know, fraternizing with humans is forbidden here." Alynafae said with her magical and misty voice.
"My mom was a princess!" Emma not so much as asked but asserted. "Oh my god"
-------
Alynafae led them back to the castle, which looked exactly like something from a
fairy Barbie movie. It was big with pink and white marble floors. The halls were huge with purple pillars that looked like they were going to collapse at any second. It had a lot of stained glass windows bewitched of fairies doing magic. Will was sure one of them winked at him.
After hours of climbing up stairs and walking long corridors, they finally arrived at Alynafae's large bedroom, so they could talk without being overheard. It was a big purple room with a golden king bed in the middle. Rose vines traveling all around the room. To the right of the bed there was a large stone desk and a golden chair in front of it.
The fairy told Will and Emma about what she had heard about the sword.
"Well as princess of Dreyvina, I have connections with all words and creatures." she started explaining, "and my connections have told me that the person responsible is unknown but the motive might not be. Alynafae said with a gruesome tone.
For the love of the gods - this quest will never end! Will thought bitterly
"What could the motive be?" He growled
"From what I was told, there is a prophecy about someone who will steal Olympus' sword - your fathers sword - therefore by stealing the sword also stealing "the crown" of Olympus to rule it. The person who steals the sword also intends to kill Zeus and become the most powerful god and rule the human race, blah blah that kind of crap power hungry people tend to aim for." she said. Will frowns at hearing the fairies statement. It sounded oddly familiar to something someone had said to him when he was 11 years old.
"And that's all you know? You don't know where the person might be headed?" Will questioned.
"Well, there is a rumor that the person who stole the sword is actually currently attending Tikithi." Alynafae admitted. Will and Emma traded suspicious looks.
Emma sighs
"Thank you for your collaboration, we will be going back to where we camped to
head back to school and tell our Headmaster what we learned." they both turn around to leave.
"Wait Emma, can I talk to you for a second, please?" Alynafae pleaded. "Alone?" she added, inclining her head towards Will.
"I'll go wait outside." Will said, walking out the door and closing it behind him. He leaned against the wall, waiting for Emma. He overhears the conversation.
"Look this is all too much okay? I went through almost half my life thinking that the only family I had was my brother and then I found out I have an aunt, who is a princess and that my mother was also royalty! It's too much. I need to process this okay? I need time and even if enough time has passed, I'm not sure I'd want to get in touch. I'm okay with the people I have in my life, they're my family." Emma explained.
"I get it, it's all very overwhelming. And you have people in your life that you love and that love you; brother, friends... boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?" Emma stuttered, " I don't have a boyfriend."
"Honey, come on! Have you seen the way that poor boy looks at you?" Will presses his ear to the door to hear more clearly what they are saying.
"You mean with pure hatred." Emma said,
"Look, I have to go. Goodbye."
Will quickly goes back to casually standing against the door, acting like he wasn't eavesdropping.
"Let's go." she said as she walked away. They were walking through the castle to the front gate, when Emma abruptly stopped.
"Is it just me or did the story she told us seem a bit of a stretch?" she asked
"You mean do I think that she was straight up lying to our face?" Will corrected her.
"Uh, yeah"
"Yes, definitely. Don't you think that it's a bit weird that the person who is supposed to know everything that goes on in the magical world knows nothing, then sends us to a fairy princess that just happens to be your aunt?" Will asks
"It's beyond weird. Especially my dad asking for my help." Emma sighed frustratedly, " I get the feeling that this is part of something bigger than a stolen sword, and we are in the middle of something and we have no idea what it is."
" Me too." Will agreed. "Do you think that maybe we should stay a little longer and investigate your aunt?"
"Yeah we definitely should. If she even is my aunt."
Will looked around to make sure no one was listening to them or seeing them. They both went back up to Alynafae's bedroom without being seen. They carefully peeped through the slightly open door, careful to not be seen. Emma was the closest to the door and Will was listening behind her, almost falling on top of her. They heard her talking to someone on her Firefly.
"Yes, they believed me," she said, "they completely bought the bait about it being someone at their school. They are completely clueless, don't worry." Alynafae said and hung up the phone. They saw her head to the door, so they quickly and quietly ran to the shadow and hid. Emma put her hand to her mouth to keep her completely quiet. The fairy princess left without seeing them. Emma and Will looked at eachother. And WIll saw her completely shocked expression, with a hint of something he couldn't recognize, maybe fear.
