It was a week after what happened in Dreyvina. A week after Emma's death. It was time for her funeral. The whole school would be attending and other residents of Xamari. It was a hard week for all of the people who witnessed her death. Especially Will and Jason. Jason was angry, but not at Will, he knew that Will loved her just as much as he did. He was angry at Zeus, it was unfair that the best person, the purest soul that he knew was gone. Apparently the good doesn't always win, sometimes the bad does too.
Jason walked out to the court yard where the funeral would be held. It was brief yet emotional to everyone who cared for her. Agnes said a few words before they buried her.
"We lost one of us. We lost the best student, the best fighter, and the best person I have ever known. Even though we, those who fight to keep humanity safe, die at an early age. But the death of Ms Darhk was untimely and hurt all those whom she was dear to. Today we mourn, but we also celebrate to have known a beautiful spirit." said Agnes with her voice-breaking at the end. She lowered Emma's casket in the hole.
Later they went to the dining hall where a wake would be held. They all shared memories about Emma. Talked, laughed, and cried. Except Will. he kept his face straight and harsh. But Jason could tell that he was fighting to not let people know what he was feeling. That he blamed himself for the death. Jason knew that because he felt the same way, until it became all too much to him and he ran to the bathroom. Gasping for air, he clutched the sink trying to pull himself together. He felt a hand on his shoulder, it was ben.
"Hey! It's okay! Calm down!" ben tried to soothe hi
"Oh, why didn't I think about that?" Jason asked sarcastically
"Just breathe. Deep breaths, okay?"
"I can't!" Jason shouted.
"Then think of something that calms you down."
"Keep talking" he choked out.
"What?" Ben asked, confused.
"Keep talking. Your voice calms me down." he said breathlessly
"Okay! Um, remember that summer we went camping in the woods and I thought
that I saw a snake and completely freaked out, but it turned out to be a part of a hose." "Yeah, that was hilarious." Jason laughed, feeling more calmly.
"Thanks, man."
"Always." Ben said. Their faces were inches apart. Jason felt a sudden explosion
of impulsiveness and kissed him. They broke apart and Ben smiled.
"Maybe we should get back. People will be wondering where we've gone." said
Ben.
They went back to the wake, Clara, Mitala, Noah, Gabriel, and Will where all
gathered in a corner of the hall. Separated from everyone. Jason patted Will's shoulder and gave him a pained smile, which he reciprocated. Will pulled out his phone to check something, and a few seconds later he said,
"Hey guys, um I'm going back to my cabin. I need to be alone for a while."
"Yeah sure" they all responded.
"You gonna be okay?" asked Jason.
"Yeah, I just need to be alone," he said on the left, patting Jason sympathetically on the back.
