You couldn't sleep. No matter how much you tried, your mind wouldn't let you rest. The tossing and turning for hours since dusk. There was too much swirling in your thoughts. It made it hard to get even a wink of sleep. When you checked the clock, you saw that it had it midnight. A tired groan left you and you rolled out of bed, standing and stretching. If you can't sleep, might as well get some fresh air and clear your head.
Grabbing your coat and slipping on your shoes, you opened the front door and left the house, closing the door behind you. The air felt chilly, especially for a summer night. But you walked down the street and to the gate, where the nightshift guards were keeping a lookout. Walking up, they moved towards you, hands out. "Halt! No citizen of Mondstadt outside the gate passed midnight." One of them said. You were about to protest, when a familiar silky voice was heard behind you. "Calm down, gentlemen. They're with me." He smiled, standing by your side. Looking over and up, you saw that it was indeed, none other than the Calvary Captain; Kaeya Alberich. The guards looked at each other, before apologizing and going back to their posts.
You and Kaeya then walked out and when far enough out of earshot, he spoke up. "Can't sleep, eh? Something keeping you awake?" The blue haired man asked, curious to why you're out this late in the night. He couldn't be more right the moment he popped the question. "How'd you know?" You looked up to him. A smile crossed his lips, hands in his pockets. He didn't answer, and you took that as he also had things on his mind keeping him up. You knew he wasn't one to really talk about what's really bothering him. So you continued to walk beside him through Mondstadt in comfortable silence. You didn't think a word was needed to let each other know that youre there for one another tonight.
Some moments passed as you two walked side by side. Neither of you spoke since leaving Mondstadt City. Kaeya wanted to say something a little while back, but wasn't sure of how to phrase it without making the walk weird or suddenly uncomfortable. It had to do with his own internal struggles. But he decided to stay silent and if the need ever arises, then he'd talk. For now he stayed close by your side. It was dark and there were monsters lurking around, maybe even the Abyss Order. The Calvary Captain kept a close watch on you and the surroundings. He wanted to keep it at a personal hang out for as long as he could, trying not to be on duty.
You both went from Mondstadt to Windrise, walking in the field by the large oak tree; The Symbol of Mondstadt's Hero as its called. You didn't look too much into its history, but you knew it had something to do with Vanessa. That's all, really. Looking at it, you would always climb and just sit on one of the high branches. It was a place you used; like Acting Grand Master Jean, to clear your head or find some type of peace. "I love this tree. Not because of it's history, but it's a place I can go to when I need a moment of quiet." You spoke to him, almost absentmindedly. The way you looked at the tree, gave Kaeya an idea. "Hey, come with me." He offered his hand. You looked at him, wondering what he meant, but taking his hand anyways.
He led you across the field opposite of the tree. It was hard keeping up with him, but he held a firm grip on your hand so you wouldn't be left behind. It was a long hike, but eventually you made it up and to the edge of Starnatch Cliff. It was windy, but the view of the beach and Stormberrer Mountains was nothing like you've ever seen. Kaeya carefully let go of your hand and sat at the edge, legs dangling off. He looked over his shoulder to you, motioning you to come ans sit beside him. And you did, with caution of almost making one wrong step and falling into the crashing waves below.
Once securely beside him, you looked out at the immaculate view. "Wow..." you gasped, astonished. You've never been up here before and now that you have, it was a sight to behold. You took in everything. Kaeya watching you with a smile. "I come up here when I need to get away from work." He spoke up, now looking out to the horizon. Your attention was on him as he continued. "It helps relieve the stress. Especially with.." You watched his expression go from relaxed to distant. He trailed off, and you knew what he meant. You leaned against him, resting your head against his shoulder. "Thank you," you muttered, a gentle smile on your lips.
Taken by slight suprise, Kaeya looked to you resting against him. You looked content with being brought up here. He smiled himself, wrapping an arm around your waist to keep you close and from moving so you wouldn't fall to your death. The cryo user placed a gentle kiss on top your head, before resting his head against yours, looking out to the view of the night. He was grateful you were here with him. Not feeling alone for once.
