Period cramps are the effing worst.
I'm always annoyed when I get my period but this one had an underlying relief cause at least I wasn't pregnant. That was my low key fear that I did not want to discuss with anyone but thankfully I never have to. I put my pain killer in my bag. I went for a less sus look today, white tee and blue jeans with a red flannel shirt and sneakers.
Looks normal right?
I button up the collar button of the flannel shirt to hide my neck, but then it looks wierd. The scars on my neck are barely visible now, I decide to just use my hair and improvise.
"Mum, I'm off" I already planned on rebeling and taking public transport, even if I have a phobia for people that aren't my parents or friends. And I know my dad driving me to school in the morning makes him late for work even if no one tells me.
"Alright honey, but your dad isn't downstairs yet." She says and walks up to me, adjusting the collar of my flannel shirt and my hair. It's like she knew what I was trying to do, and she helped.
"Mieux" (better)
"I.. I want to go on my own today, not walking just taking the bus."
"You don't have to"
"I know but I want to, I'll still have to grow up and go to college. Might as well start practicing being normal again" I state.
She has a look of worry and I don't blame her "fine, be safe. You need pepper spray?"
"Mum!!" Then I think about it "yeah"
She smiles and jogs upstairs, I watch her walk back down, her short satin night dress swaying from side to side. Wonder if that will look good on me, cause it looks amazing on her. She hands me the small bottle, I don't want to question why she has this to begin with. She pecks my cheek and I walk over to the door."Also, I took some painkillers from your room" I remind her so she doesn't turn the whole house upside down when she's on her period questioning who took her painkillers, she's deadly during that time.
She nods and smiles
I walk over to the bus station and get on the next one. I have my pepper spray wrapped tightly in my palm. I look so paranoid right now
But it gets better, right?
I take a seat next to a female about my age. She's rocking what I haven't worn in a long time, a skirt. A really cute REALLY short plaid skirt. She has her eyes on her phone the whole time. I sure saved her life by sitting next to her, cause if a pervy guy was to be in my position, she'll be the one needing the pepper spray.
I arrive at school safe and sound
Hallelujah
I walk over to Drea's locker. My first time seeing her bob cut black hair packed up. "Why the sudden change of hair styling" I ask.
"I saw this trick on youtube that packing up your hair makes your facial features stand out. Here try it" she says and walks over to me, I immediately tense up when her hand reaches my hair. I move away from her and they both stare at me with confusion.
I grip all my hair in my hand and raise it up for a swift second and smile. "that was too fast we didn't get to evaluate."
I should have stuck with the hoodie.
"Was that a hickey I saw on your neck?" Drea asks. Reggie is oddly quiet today.
"No, it's a bite mark. An insect or something. What's wrong Reggie?" I shift the attention away from me as a mild panic attack starts to set in.
